Zlatan Ibrahimovic Failed to Surpass Robin Van Persie at Manchester United

Van Persie netted 30 times in the 2012-13 season. However, the Swedish came close with 28 goals to become the first player for Manchester United to score above 20 goals in a season but failed to surpass the former.

New Delhi: Following his contract termination with the English football giants, Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed to surpass Dutchman Robin Van Persie at Manchester United.

Van Persie netted 30 times in the 2012-13 season. However, the Swedish came close with 28 goals to become the first player for Manchester United to score above 20 goals in a season but failed to surpass the former.

Earlier on Thursday, Manchester United announced the termination of Ibrahimovic in a statement.

“Manchester United confirms that it has agreed to the termination of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract with immediate effect.

Everyone at the club would like to thank Zlatan for his contribution to the team since his arrival and wishes him well for the future,” Manchester United said.

The 36-year-old, who helped the Red Devils clinch the EFL Cup in 2016-17 took to social media to thank the club and said: “Great things also come to an end and it is time to move on after two fantastic seasons with Manchester United. Thank you to the club, the fans, the team, the coach, the staff and everybody who shared with me this part of my history. #foreverred”

Ibrahimovic is further highly linked with a move to MLS club LA Galaxy. Earlier, former premier footballers including David Beckham and Steven Gerrard have played for the Los Angeles club.
