OnePlus 3T finally arrived last night and the device, which was much leaked and much in the news over the past few weeks was finally made official. In terms of features and specifications, the all new OnePlus 3T did not really impress as it was only a marginal upgrade to the OnePlus 3. But, with the launch of OnePlus 3T, the OnePlus 3 quickly and almost instantly became obsolete, making us realise just how quickly technology advances and also, making us want another OnePlus device. OnePlus, which follows the Apple trend, and sticks to launching one device a year broke the trend this year and after launching OnePlus 3 a few months back, quickly launched OnePlus 3T as a successor. Although not a flagship, since it comes with certain modifications, the OnePlus 3T is quite an honest upgrade. There’s no other way to describe it. Coming to the features and specifications of OnePlus 3T, as mentioned above, except for some marginal changes, all the features are just the same. OnePlus 3T comes with Android Marshmallow optimised to Oxygen OS out of the box. However, OnePlus did promise that both, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 will be receiving the Android Nougat upgrade pretty soon. The OnePlus 3T comes with a 5.5 inches full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2.5D protection. Under the display is the fingerprint scanner. OnePlus 3T comes with a 16 MP front and rear end camera. Although the resolution of both the cameras is the same, both the cameras come with different sensors – the front being Samsung and the back being Sony. The phone supports 4k video recording. These are some of the similarities between OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3. Also Read - OnePlus 3, 3T get stable OxygenOS 9.0.4 update with June 2019 Android security patch
Now, coming to the marginal differences which on paper seem relatively tiny but in the long run, might just make the OnePlus 3T a much better device. Though the aesthetics of OnePlus 3T are the same as OnePlus 3, in terms of functioning and power, it is a definitely better and a more powerful device. And being a more powerful device, it is but naturally going to leave the OnePlus 3 behind. However, as the device has been launched as an upgrade, it is still unclear if the OnePlus 3 will be discontinued and only OnePlus 3T be made available for the masses. For now, both devices are pretty much there on the market. However, one thing is for sure, with the arrival of OnePlus 3T, the price of OnePlus 3 is bound to come down. But more on that later, let’s look at the 3 key features of OnePlus 3T first! Also Read - OnePlus 3T smartphone in Midnight Black available for limited time
1. The Processor: OnePlus 3T comes with a 2.35 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor as opposed to the 2.15 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor in OnePlus 3. However, the GPU in both, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 is the Adreno 530 GPU. This change was much rumoured and this is the biggest change that the OnePlus 3T comes with. OnePlus claims that it gives the device a lot more power and more strength to function. The device is comparatively faster and multi-tasking is easier with the new processor.
2. New Internal Memory Variant: OnePlus 3T comes in 2 internal memory variants – 64 GB and 128 GB as opposed to OnePlus 3 which came in just one internal memory option, that was 64 GB. However, both the smartphones, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 do not come with a memory card slot meaning the internal memory is all you get. Most smartphones are now providing more and more internal memory and doing away with the memory card slot. Some smartphones, like the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL provide direct cloud integration to users. The newer expanded memory variant in OnePlus 3T has been welcomed by users.
3. Battery Life: Now, this was a feature well known and well leaked. OnePlus 3T comes with an upgraded battery, 3400 mAh. OnePlus 3 came with a 3000 mAh battery. While the power and the battery life has increased, the larger battery has not affected the dimensions of the device in any way and OnePlus 3T comes with the same dimensions as that of OnePlus 3. Additionally, OnePlus 3T also comes with the dash Charge which is The Fast Charge solution provided by OnePLus, helping the battery go from 0 charge to 60 charge in less than 30 minutes.
So then, well, these are the major differences in both – OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3. Clearly, OnePlus 3T is marginally better in specifications but drastically better when it comes to performance.
