Samsung Galaxy S8, the flagship of 2017 is already all over the news. Samsung is expected to launch the Samsung Galaxy S8 at their event during Mobile World Congress in February end. The pressure on Samsung this time around is intense owing to their Samsung Galaxy Note 7 failure. Samsung Galaxy S8 could be the flagship that pretty much decides Samsung’s future. Samsung has already taken a huge hit to their 2016 profits and while the company is now focusing on smaller mid-range and budget smartphones, the lack of a strong flagship is definitely affecting the brand. Sure, there is the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy Edge series devices that are still strong contenders but then, the features they come with are outdated. Samsung needs a strong flagship to keep up with the other contenders in the market and also to continue the innovation race.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was to be the one major competition for Apple iPhone 7. Considering Apple saved the big guns for iPhone 8 which it plans to launch at it’s 10th anniversary next year, Samsung had a good chance to finally fight Apple and establish its position. Samsung has been long since trying to outdo Apple but strong iPhones have been sidetracking Samsung’s plans time and again. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 came with all the features smartphone lovers could dream of. The phone even had a retina scanner to boast of! But unfortunately, after the high came the low when once the reports of battery blasts began to filter in, Samsung had to initially recall and then completely discontinue their prestigious and premium flagship line. Although Samsung did offer an exchange, the launch of Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 at the same time sure changed loyalties. For Android lovers, there was Google Pixel.

So yes, overall, the situation looks bleak for Samsung. needless to say, the pressure on the brand at this point of time is extreme and that is why a lot of hopes are pinned on Samsung Galaxy S8 which is the next flagship. Samsung is said to stick to just one flagship model from 2016 onwards and if the model is to be Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung will have to ensure that the smartphone comes with not only the best specifications and features but it will also have to be a futuristic device to be able to tackle competition effectively. There have already been tons of leaks and rumours about Samsung Galaxy S8. And while there are still a couple of months for the launch, these might not be the actual specifications. However, they do give an idea of the expectations from the phone and the areas the innovations will be in. Each week, there a new rumour. or now, take these with a pinch of salt but do keep them at the back of your mind! Samsung Galaxy S8 to come with a bezel-less design, ditch the dual cameras and other rumours

1. A bezel-less display

The smartphone is expected to come without any bezels. While bezel free smartphones have been rumours, recently Xiaomi was the first brand to launch a bezel-less smartphone with their Xiaomi Mi Mix Concept device. The phone is said to come with a bezel free display and be one of the first flagships that does so. Samsung already has the edge series with curved displays so it might be easier for the brand to experiment with the bezel free design.

2. No home button

Once the display has no bezels, Samsung will absolutely have to do away with their home button. The decision comes right at the time when the Samsung-Apple courtroom drama has reached it’s end. But if there’s no home button, what about the fingerprint sensor? The fingerprint sensor will be embedded under the display glass at the bottom of the device and will not shift to the back. it will take a unique engineering feat to achieve this and we sure are excited to know how will it work!

3. Bluetooth 5

Samsung Galaxy S8 will reportedly be the first ever smartphone to feature Bluetooth 5. With each new Android launch and each passing year, Bluetooth too upgrades its features. Though not on Apple devices, Bluetooth is still an integral part of Android. Bluetooth 5 will come with double the speed of Bluetooth 4.2, the current version and also a whole lot of other features. Bluetooth also comes with advanced broadcast capacity which is 8 times larger than the previous one. Not Samsung Galaxy Note 7 but Freedom 251 is among the top 3 trends of 2016, says Google!

4. Dual Assistants

While most smartphone makers are now using AI or artificial intelligence in their smartphones, Samsung too is now planning to launch Samsung Galaxy S8 with assistants. But then, unlike other smartphone brands or manufacturers which have just one assistant – Samsung plans to launch 2 assistants with Samsung Galaxy S8. Samsung has also named the assistants and these assistants will be one male and one female – Bixby and Kestra respectively.

5. Ramped up internal memory

With most flagships soon going the internal memory way, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 too is expected to come with a large internal memory. The smartphone will come with 256 GB internal memory. But will there be variants of the phone or will it be just one internal memory version? Also, will there be any memory card slot or will it be only the internal memory is unknown. However, the large internal memory is sure to keep most users happy, card slot or not.
