Apple’s upcoming iOS 10.3 beta operating system is rumored to feature ‘Theater mode’, accessible via a ‘popcorn-shaped’ icon in control centre, a media report said. According to a report on AppleInsider, the Cupertino giant is planning to release the upcoming iOS beta update in January. “It is still unclear as to what ‘Theatre mode’ accomplishes or how it works, however the name suggests a set of device settings suitable for use in a movie theater,” said the report.

The news came in after a noted Apple leaker, Sonny Dickson tweeted, “iOS 10.3 to feature a new Theatre mode – will include a new popcorn-shaped Control Center icon.” We speculate, the said ‘Theatre Mode’ as the name suggests, would be more like a phone profile such as General, Silent or Meeting. The ‘Theatre Mode’ would probably dim display lights and adjust phone volumes and notification alert settings, suitable to use while a movie screening in theatres. While it is also possible, that the ‘Theatre Mode’ might just be a viewing mode, when accessed from the control center it would optimize video playback.

The recent iOS 10.2 beta update was rolled out in December, packing in new emoji characters, tweaks to Music on iPhone and Apple’s new TV app. Reportedly, Apple is also working on a new software features specific to iPad, such as improved Apple Pencil support to go with the hardware updates.

“Most recently, Apple released the second beta version of iOS 10.2.1 to public testers last week with minor bug fixes and performance improvements,” the report noted.

If reports are to be believed, Apple might roll out iOS 10.3 beta update in first-half of January.
