Apple iPhone 8 has been discussed more in open forums, even before Apple unveiled iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in September this year. Rumors and speculation around iPhone 8’s design and specification have kept resurfacing time and again. These speculations have now become more frequent, as Apple is allegedly gearing up for launching iPhone 8 or next in-line iPhone 7s next year as an heir to iPhone 7 series. Apple iPhone 7 and 7s were highly anticipated phones, but apart from spec upgrades and iOS upgrades, nothing major was noticed on design front. iPhone 6 series was the only design innovation made three years ago. Since, the Cupertino giant is in its tenth year of iPhone making, it is expected that iPhone 8 may bring in major design overhaul. Rumors and reports surfacing hints at Apple may finally be taking the OLED way for their display panels in iPhone 8.  Few reports surfaced ahead of iPhone 7 released, suggesting Apple might be in discussion with display manufactures like Samsung Display and LG Display, for collaborating on OLED display panels. According to a report by Nikkei, during a speech Sharp President, Tai Jeng-Wu said Apple might be switching to OLED display soon. Until now, Apple has been using LTPS (Low-temprature Poly-silicon) displays and it is time for them to take the OLED display roads and transform itself, for the innovation they are named for. “We don’t know whether Apple’s OLED iPhones will be a hit, but if Apple doesn’t walk down this path and transform itself, there will be no innovation. The same report also suggests, Apple will not launch two but three new iPhones in the year 2017 and a premium variant out of the three is expected to have 5.5 inch curved OLED display, whereas other two will be regular LTPS display variant.

Well, if Apple integrates OLED displays in their next line of iPhones, it easily transcends into Apple bring edge-to-edge display to iPhones, especially when Samsung Galaxy S8 is already tipped to have dual-curved display panel with a 90 percent screen to body ratio. Xiaomi has already begun the trend of bezel-less designed smartphone with their recently unveiled Mi Mix. Earlier a concept phone Mi Mix, designed by Mi has already become a reality and is currently available for sale in China only.

Apple has already replaced physical home button with iPhone 7, making it a capacitive touch panel supporting 3D Force Touch and built-in haptic feedback. It is rumored, that Apple might just do away with ‘Home Button’ completely in iPhone 8.

An earlier report on Nikkei, tipped Apple iPhone 8 may have wireless charging. Foxconn Technology group is making wireless charging modules for Apple, says the report. However, it is not confirmed that the wireless charging modules will be featured in iPhone 8, as it depends on the yield rate of the technology partner to manufacture these charging modules.

In tenth year of iPhone, things appear to get as exciting as huge it gets.
