After Elon Musk tweeted “Cancel Netflix for the health of your children,” social media platforms were flooded with users posting about Screen shots of canceling their Netflix subscriptions. Musk’s comments responded to allegations that Netflix promotes a “Transgender Woke Agenda” through some of its content. He claimed that children’s animated shows feature transgender characters. The animated series “Dead End: Paranormal Park,” now discontinued, led to outrage among conservative circles.

Musk has long opposed “wokeism,” frequently describing it as a “mind virus.” After his tweet, many social media users shared screenshots of their canceled subscriptions and called for a boycott. The campaign led to a huge drop in Netflix’s stock price and shares declined about 2.4% shortly after Musk’s tweets.

What’s Elon Musk & Netflix Controversy?

The controversy intensified after claims that the series creator, Hamish Steele, posted insensitive comments related to the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Musk and other right-wing influencers call for cancellation, arguing that Netflix’s programming and corporate policies reflect biased ideological hiring and political donations.

Musk announced that his AI company xAI is developing ‘Grokipedia,’ an alternative to Wikipedia, also criticizing the Wikipedia Foundation as biased.

Netflix has so far not officially commented on the boycott campaign. The backlash is part of a larger cultural and regulatory debate, with Musk and others questioning the direction of popular media platforms. At the same time, X (formerly Twitter) is preparing to appeal a recent Karnataka High Court decision that strengthened the Indian government’s authority over social media content regulation, underlining rising concerns about legal control of online information.
