Facebook Lite now has over 200 million users, announced Facebook today. The app made for low-end Android smartphones operates Facebook on low bandwith with compact features from the main app. The app was introduced by the social media giant, back in June 2015, targeting areas where connectivity concerns are still a little patchy. In its almost two years of run, Facebook Lite app has been able to double the number of users from that in March 2016. The number clearly indicates social media’s competency in covering areas with low-end connectivity infrastructure, also comprising rural areas of many countries, with a fast pace. On Wednesday, announcing the numbers in a post, Sheryl Sandberg, COO, Facebook said “In many areas, networks can be slow and unable to support all the functions available on Facebook. Facebook Lite app doesn’t only stay limited for area with connectivity concerns, but also help many small and medium enterprise owners to grow. “In several countries around the world, many people are mobile first or mobile only – and that includes business owners. FB Lite is helping business owners grow and reach customers on mobile even when bandwidth is at a minimum” Sheryl added. According to Mashable report, Facebook Lite app has been launched in over 150 countries including India, Brazil, Indonesia, and Mexico. The app supports 55 languages currently and the tech giant is in plans to extend the low-end app services to more countries including Israel, Italy, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.

Facebook Lite App is available on Google Play Store with size of just 1.32MB and runs on Android Gingerbread 2.3 and above. In its latest version, the app has got improvements for reliability and speed. Also, the fast-growing social media giant completed its 13 years in the business.
