Google announces latest Google Pixel phones and finally, here is an all-Google phone!

Google finally unveiled their much delayed devices, Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL. There wasn’t anything surprising at the event really, considering how every tiny details of Google Pixel phones was leaked well before the launch. But then, the event focused more on software of the device rather than hardware and gave us a detailed glimpse into what Google Assistant will be all about. It also showed us how Google is now getting aggressive in the smartphone market and the Google Pixel devices are just the beginning for Google. According to Sunder Pichai, Google Pixel is “… the best of hardware and software designed by Google”. So then, just what is it that makes the Google Pixel phones so special?

Google Pixel Design: As was very obvious from leaks, Google Pixel comes in a clean and neat design. The devices is encased in an all-metal aluminium body and the back of Google Pixel is not only dual-coloured (like those good old Nokia days which had a different shade in the region where you could open your device and access the battery) but encased in glass. Google  Pixel is not outstanding in terms of looks and design but the phone is definitely a different and interesting looking phone. Google has launched Google Pixel in 3 colour variants, and 3 of them are interestingly named: Quite Black, Very Silver and Really Blue. But then, Really Blue being a limited edition item might be the first one to get sold out. Coming to the form factor, Google Pixel is not a bulky device but rather looks comfortable and comes with curved edges that fit in the shape of your palm according to Google. The front and the back both boast the 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection. Quite convenient overall.

Google Pixel specifications: Now this was the one thing that was not elaborated but rather mentioned in passing by Google. Google Pixel is a set of phones and both the phones come with the same features and specifications. Unlike certain other brands (read Ale here) which price their larger devices at a premium and make them the “better gadgets”, Google has equipped both Google Pixel phones with the same interiors. If there’s anything that’s different, it’s the size. So depending on your comfort levels, you can choose the size you want without having to compromise on the features in any manner. Google Pixel phones come in 2 sizes – 5-inch and 5.5 inch display. Both the displays are QHD displays with 2K resolution. Both Google Pixel phones come with a density of 1440 x 2560 pixels. Google Pixel phones come with the fingerprint scanner on the back of the device.

Coming to the hardware, Google Pixel phones are both powered by the latest Snapdragon 821 processor and come with a massive 4GB RAM. The phones, needless to say, run the latest Android system, Android Nougat and will be supported by Google even in the future. But Google has slightly changed the update system. Once there’s a new update by Google, it will automatically be stored in the back of the device and will begin to run the next time you restart the phone. The highlight, or rather one of the highlights of Google Pixel phones apart from the newly announced Google Assistant is the camera. Google claims that pixel phones have the best ever camera in a smartphone – rated 89 by DXOMark, which is the highest rating ever given to any smartphone. Both Google Pixel phones have a 12.3MP camera, featuring an f/2.0 aperture and big 1.55 micron pixels for better photography.

Google Pixel Battery Life and price: All the features sound cool and fun, but then, what’s the battery life of the phone? That is what really matters and will make a world of a difference. Google claims that Google Pixel phones come with a fast charge technology that let you charge your device for you to 7 hours of battery life within 15 minutes! Google has focused extensively on battery and fast charge with their latest phones. Oh, and coming to the best part about Google Pixel? Well, the phones come with the 3.5mm jack! Well, the phones do sound good and since it’s been so long that we saw a good enough Nexus (the line which we can all safely assume has now been buried), Google fanboys will want to grab a Google Pixel at the earliest. So, what’s the pricing and the availability like? Google will start shipping the phones in India from October 13th and their official partners are: Reliance Digital, Croma and Flipkart. In US, the phones have been priced at $649 while in India, Google pixel devices are expected to start selling at Rs 57,000.
