Huawei has slowly been making great inroads and launching some of the strongest smartphones in India. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has already made quite an impression across multiple international markets but then, one of the markets they are still trying their best to strengthen their hold in is the USA market. And now, all their strategies are bent at wooing the US consumer when it comes to smartphones. Huawei, with their Honor series has definitely made a mark and even in India, the brand is going from strength to strength. Huawei was one of the first Chinese brands to foray into the Indian market though their position in the country has been weakened by newer entrants like Xiaomi and LeEco. But the brand continues to innovate and their two new launches, Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design are testinmony to the fact.

Both, Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design are premium smartphones but the latter is right on top of the premium smartphones chain. The devices are extremely similar when it comes to certain aspects but then starkly different when it comes to the others. The most important aspect of both these devices is the new artificial intelligence feature that makes the device a lot more personal and smarter than the average smartphone. Huawei’s smartphones with AI had long been in talks and at the launch, the phones definitely managed to keep up to all the expectations. Along with Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design, Huawei also launched a fitness tracker. Coming back to the AI in Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design, the feature will track the user’s movements, and learn which are the most used app sby the user to position them accordingly on the phone and also for other purposes.

More on the AI feature later. Let’s check out the specifications for Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design. Huawei Mate 9 is a phablet and comes with a large 5.9 inches Full HD display with a pixel resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 373 ppi. Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porche Design are some of the first smartphones to provide the Android Nougat experience out of the box. However, they do have their own skin EMUI 5.0 which is based on Adnroid Nougat and customised specially keeping the new AI in mind. Under the hood of the device runs a Hisilicon Kirin 960 Octa-core processor with a Mali-G71 MP8 GPU. Huawei has moved away from the traditional Snapdragon processor for their new device. The phone comes in just one internal memory variant and that is the 64GB version. Now, when it comes to expandable memory, Huawei Mate 9 gives you 2 expansion slots – one is a dedicated memory card slot and the other is the hubrid SIM 2 card slot. Both slots support expansion up to 256GB. 4 Problems with the latest MacBook Pro and Apple’s excuses for a disappointing product

Coming to the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design, the smartphone is different from Huawei Mate 9 in the above mentioned areas. As the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design is clearly more superior and powerful to the Huawei Mate 9, the device’s specifications have been ramped up accordingly. Coming to the display, the phone is not as massive as the Huawei mate 9 but rather, sports the standard 5.5-inch display. However, while Huawei Mate 9 had a Full HD display, the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design has a QHD display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a pixel density of 534 ppi. The Android version in both the devices are the same, i.e Android Nougat. Coming to the processor, Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design runs Hisilicon Kirin 960 octa-core processor, again the same as that of Huawei Mate 9 and he same GPU. However, the internal memory here has been ramped up to a massive 256 GB. Needless to add, there’s no memory card slot. The RAM is also more powerful to support the larger memory and is clocked at 6GB.  Google claims Android as safe and secure as iOS, will soon be better!

Coming to the highlight of both, Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design, the camera. Both the smartphones come with a dual camera set up. Apple definitely did some magic with the iPhone 7 Plus and now, everyone wants a slice of the dual camera pie. However, both the cameras in Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design come with a different resolution. The 20MP rear end camera, which is the primary camera comes with a monochrome colour sensor while the secondary rear end camera is a 12MP shooter and supports the RGB colour spectrum. Both the cameras come with Leica optics and support PDAF, laser auto-focus, dual LED flash, and multiple other smartphone photography modes. The front camera is a 8MP shooter. Both the smartphones come with a fingerprint sensor. Now, coming to the battery of the device – considering both the phones are powered by the same processor but have distinct display and internal memory needs, the devices come with the same battery. Both Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design sport a 4000 mAh battery with a fast charge feature that supports quick charging in limited time. iPhone 6 now available for Rs 33,990 with an additional Rs 3000 discount on Flipkart!

While Huawei Mate 9 is available in a plethora of colours: Space Gray, Moonlight Silver, Champagne Gold, Mocha Brown, Ceramic White, Black; Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design comes in just one colour option – Graphite Black. Huawei Mate 9 is priced at Eur 699 while Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design is priced at EUR 1,395. There’s no word on the launch of either of devices in India for now. Coming back to the AI or Artificial Intelligence feature of the Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design, it is a mechanical feature which runs on the smartphone and is not connected to the internet or the cloud, keeping user data secure. Most smartphone manufacturers are now focusing on Artificial Intelligence as the next big thing in smartphones as it learns user behaviour to provide unique experiences. Recently, we saw Google launch their very own AI feature through Google Assistant, Google’s personal assistant. However, while Google Assistant did raise a whole lot of concerns and questions over security, Huawei aims to quell those queries with Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design smartphones.  Vivo to launch Vivo V5 in India with 20MP selfie camera for less than Rs 20,000!

Talking about Artificial Intelligence in Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design Arne Herkelmann, Huawei’s European head of handset portfolio and planning said, It learns how you use your phone.” Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group, also quoted while launching both the new devices, though his comment was mainly for the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design smartphone, “We identified a new type of luxury consumer is emerging. One who needs a smartphone that matches the special demands of their successful, global lifestyles. Porsche Design is synonymous with excellence in innovation, unique design and perfection. The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 sets a new benchmark in design and performance and delivers a revolutionary smartphone experience that will enhance even the fastest-paced business and personal lifestyles.” Both the devices being premium end devices cater to a specific audience class. And though there are chances of Huawei Mate 9 coming to India, the chances of Huawei launching Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design in India look slim as the smartphone is well over the Rs 1 lakh spectrum, a class which is still extremely rare and niche in the country.
