Instagram Live Stories update coming globally over next week

Instagram Live Stories update will be rolled out globally over next week, the company announced in a blog post yesterday. The Live Stories feature was being beta tested and was rolled to selected users in several regions across the globe, before rolling it out all users. The Live Stories features was made available on the photo-sharing app towards the end of year 2016, and was many users got the feature on their update in last few weeks as well, according to Instagram users.

“We’re excited to share that live video on Instagram Stories — a new way to connect with your friends and followers right now — will be rolling out to our entire global community over the next week. From real-time makeup tutorials to live DJ sets, it’s been exciting to watch as the community shares new sides of their lives.” Instagram wrote in the blog post, announcing the Live Stories update global roll out. Instagram Live Stories are distinct from other Live Video platforms as it doesn’t save the video after a live broadcast is finished. Users cannot access the video once the broadcast is over. With Instagram Live Stories feature, users can go live for as long as one hour.

How to go live? It is important that the user has the app updated on their device. Live video feature is only available on Instagram version 10.0 and above. When in Instagram, swipe left to right across the feed screen or tap on the ‘camera icon’ at top left, similarly as you do post Instagram stories, Boomerang clip or Hands-free video. Choose ‘Start Live Video’ from the Live tab to start the live broadcast. As soon as you go live, followers would get notified. Comments from viewers would appear at the bottom and number of people watching the broadcast can be seen on top right during the live video.

As soon as you’re done, your Instagram live story will disappear from the app. User can also watch Top Live in Explore section,  making exciting live stories from other users accessible. Instagrammers do get an option to turn off the comments, if they do not wish to get any on their live streaming.
