Reliance Jio 4G services at affordable prices and already prevailing promotional Happy New Year Offer, an extension to its Welcome Offer, has put communications industry into a cut-throat competition. While rival telecom operators are announcing offers to sip in more and more customers, there are several handset manufacturers working on cheapest 4G VoLTE enabled handset. LYF smartphones of Reliance Retail has already managed to do so to some extent and reportedly the company has been working of 4G enabled feature phone at prices as low as Rs 1500. While, the Reliance Jio feature phone is still to make its entry, Lava has already launched its 4G VoLTE enabled Connect M1 feature phone today, priced at Rs 3333.
Lava Connect M1, easily becomes first 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone to launch in the category. Also, the handset comes bundled with Reliance Jio 4G services. “The launch of this smart feature phone, we believe, will create possibilities for users as they will now be able to consume digital content and even do digital transactions. Furthermore, a sizable segment of feature phone users in India who use their phone to only make calls will now be able to access the internet; to their advantage; and that too at affordable price,” said Gaurav Nigam, Head – Product, Lava International.
Lava Connect M1 sports a 2.4 inch Full HD display and runs on 1.4 Ghz quad-core chipset. It has 512 MB RAM along with 4GB onboard storage, expandable upto 32 GB over MicroSD card. Since it is a basic feature phone, a selfie camera is not present and for the optics, Connect M1 sports a rear VGA camera. It is powered by a 1750 mAh battery and has Bluetooth and FM. The device features other pre-loaded apps such as Facebook Lite. The device has a D-pad for navigation and dedicated buttons on the top to quick launch camera, music player, web browser and FM.

Lava being the first one to officially launch a feature phone supporting high speed internet connectivity is likely to start the trend, followed by other smartphone manufacturers to launch cheap feature phones with 4G VoLTE support. Interestingly, Jio 4G feature phone expected to be priced from Rs 999 to Rs 1500 would lend competition too, once launched.
