Moto G5 Plus and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 comes face-to-face on March 15 sale: Which one to buy?

Lenovo owned Motorola launched its latest handset Moto G5 Plus along side Moto G and the former one is all set to launch in India on March 15 in a Flipkart exclusive sale. Alongside, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 launched in January this year has been on sale in India for a couple of month now. Since the demand for Redmi Note 4 has been overwhelming for the Chinese manufacaturer, the handset opens for sale in slots, next one happens to be on March 15.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Moto G5 Plus, both the hansets would be available for sale on March 15, directly competing with each other. In terms of specifications, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Moto G5 Plus offers great features at decent price tags. Although, there is no official word yet regarding the price of Moto G5 Plus, the handset is expected to start from Rs 15,000. While on the other hand Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, available in three storage and RAM variants starts from Rs 9,999 to Rs 12,999. Here we discuss both the handsets and what they have to offer, so you can plan ahead of time, if you are looking forward to own any one of them.

Design

Moto G5 Plus is an all-metal smartphone and sports a 5.2 inch FullHD display with Gorilla Glass 3. On the other hand Redmi Note 4 sports a metal-body design as well but with a 5.5 inch Full HD display with 2.5D curved glass on too. Relatively, the Redmi Note 4 offers a slightly bigger display than the Moto G5 Plus and seems fit for those who want a bigger display. While the Moto G5 Plus measures 150.2 x 74 x 7.7 mm, the Redmi Note 4 measures 151 x 76 x 8.5 mm.

Specifications

Both Moto G5 Plus and Redmi Note 4 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset and offers multiple storage and RAM variants. Also, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Moto G5 Plus comes in three variants – 2GB RAM/32 GB storage, 3GB RAM/32 GB storage, 4GB RAM/ 64 GB storage. Both the handset offers expandable storage upto 256 GB over Micro SD card. For Graphics performance, both the handset has Adreno 506 GPU.

While Moto G5 Plus runs on Andrpid Nougat 7.0 out of the box and offers near-stock Android experience, ther Redmi Note 4 runs Android Marshmallow 6.0 out of the box with MIUI 8.0 OS skin on top.

Camera

In terms of optics, Redmi Note 4 features a 13.0 megapixel CMOS camera with f/2.0, dual-tone LED flash and Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF). It also has 5.0 megapixel front camera  with f/2.0 aperture and HD video recording. While Moto G5 Plus offers a 12 megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, dual-LED flash, AutoFoucs and 4K video recording. On the front, it has 5 megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture. Both the device offers video recording in 1080p at 30fps.

Battery and sensors

Moto G5 Plus packs a 3000 mAh battery with turbo charge support. While Redmi Note 4 sports a bigger battery capacity of 4100 mAh, without fast charging support.

Moto G5 Plus features a fingerprint sensor on the front panel and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has the fingerprint sensor place at the back of the design.

Connectivity

Both the handset offers similar connectivity options likes 4G LTE, GPRS, 3G, 2G, GPS/A-GPS, Glonass, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, microUSB and 3.5 mm audio jack. However, Moto G5 Plus features Bluetooth 4.2 and Redmi Note 4 features 4.1 with an IR sensor on board as well.

The question to buy!

With above comparisons, Moto G5 Plus and Redmi Note 4 offers similar specifications with few variables in terms of camera and design. However, the CPU and GPU performance is relative to the usage and bot the handsets can withstand each other in similar circumstances. Notably, Moto G5 Plus is priced slightly above than the Redmi Note 4. Where Moto G5 Plus top variant can go up to Rs 19,999, the Redmi Note 4 top variant is settled at Rs 12,999. Redmi Note 4 stands apart from Moto G5 Plus in terms of battery and if you are into longer usage of your device, then you should definitely go for it. If you are a phone photography and videography enthusiast, you should be looking forward to Moto G5 Plus.
