India’s Smartphone Market: With a population of over 142.86 crore, India has a massive smartphone market, attracting global companies eager to establish a strong presence. The smartphone market in the country is highly competitive, with every brand aiming to gain an edge. The market grows by about 1 percent annually, while revenue surges by 9 percent each year, according to a report by ET. The rising demand for 5G and AI-powered smartphones is also pushing users to upgrade their devices. But do you know which smartphone brand dominates the Indian market and sells the most phones in India? It is not Apple or Samsung but the Chinese brand Vivo.

Vivo Takes the Lead

Last year, Vivo made major gains, capturing a 19 percent market share, up from 17 percent in 2023. Xiaomi secured the second position with a stable 17 percent share. Meanwhile, Samsung slipped to third place, dropping from 18 percent in 2023 to 16 percent in 2024. Oppo ranked fourth with a 15 percent share. Realme is on fifth place with 11 percent market share.

Vivo Dominates in Every Segment

Reviewing the December quarter, Vivo led with a 20 percent market share, followed by Xiaomi (16 percent), Samsung (15 percent), Oppo (14 percent), and Apple (11 percent). It is worth noting that, top five brands that are dominating Indian smartphone market are predominantly Chinese. Samsung being the only South Korean brand competing in the market. Chinese brands have become the top choice for Indian consumers.

Chinese brands such as Vivo, Realme, and others dominate the Indian market due to their competitive pricing and quality. These brands offer feature-rich smartphones at lower prices compared to Samsung and Apple. This makes them a popular choice among users.

Apple’s Growth in India

In 2024, Apple achieved a noteworthy milestone in its expansion within the Indian market, managing to rank among the top five brands in the fourth quarter, despite the strong presence of Chinese competitors.
