Right when it launched Reliance Jio, Mukesh Ambani had also announced another HJio related service, which we all forgto about in the free internet and calling excitement. The Reliance Jio Broadband, called Reliance Jio GigaFiber or simply, Reliance Jio Fiber was another Jio or internet based service which Mukesh Ambani promised. The FTTH service would soon be launched he hinted but once the Reliance Jio craziness began, Reliance Jio GigaFiber was soon pushed into the background. Well, turns out, Reliance is finally ready to commence with the service and experiment even in the broadband space. Broadband space will bring Reliance Jio to homes of users not over wireless network but through wired networks. The Reliance Jio GigaFiber is not actually launched yet and is still in the testing phase.

As the Reliance Jio GigaFiber is still in testing phase, users cannot voluntarily get the service but rather, will have to wait for Reliance to offficially launch the service. However, the speeds offered byReliance Jio GigaFiber are completely mind blowing and Reliance is promising speeds of 1 Gbps which is 1 GB per second which can mean you can download that entire season of Game of Thrones or Sherlock in minutes, without having to wait for it. It also means no buffering or the wait to load. it sure does sound amazing but is it really possible? Will Reliance Jio GigaFiber actually be able to offer the high speed it is promising? And now does one know if the Reliance Jio GigaFiber is actually working and delivers? Well, Reliance has commenced the phase 1 testing in some regions in Mumbai and the results are heartening.

However, the pricing and the plans for Reliance Jio GigaFiber have not been revealed. Reliance Jio GigaFiber will, just like Reliance Juio, come for free for the initial days. However, there is a catch in terms of data limit and consumption. According to reports, users can get 100 Mbps free for the first 90 days or 3 months after which the charges kick in. However, even the free period has charges for the router and the installation – which are quite hefty at Rs 4500. However, this is a one-time free and if after trial, the user is dissatisfied, he can return the router for a refund. Also, the limit of data is restricted to 100 GB download limit per month post which the speed drops to 1 Mbps. The pricing, though unknown, is expected to be competitive and in multiple plans with different durations. Whatsapp is not as safe as you think – your chats can easily be hacked and read, despite all the encryption

While users, who have been able to try out the new Reliance Jio GigaFiber have definitely reported improved speeds though they are nowhere near the 1 Gbps speeds as claimed by Reliance. However, Reliance is offering speeds of up to 100 Mbps which is quite fast and an improvement over the speeds in the market presently. Reliance had announced that the Reliance Jio GigaFiber would be tested in Mumbai and Pune. However, so far, there has been no word on Pune tests and reportedly, there are only a few chosen spots where residents of Mumbai too have been able to try out and experience Reliance Jio GigaFiber. There is no word on the actual launch and availability of the internet service and whether it will be a pan India launch or be restricted to only specific regions.
