Nokia 3310 is the stuff legends are made of. Literally. It is a phone which teaches us how phones ought to be. No, Nokia 3310 does not have the fancy features and specifications that modern smartphones have. Heck, it does not even really have a specs sheet. But then, it has one thing that really matters – the quality and the battery. It has been one of the strongest and sturdiest smartphones the world has seen. The internet is awash with memes of Nokia 3310 and the device has been revered since the time it launched. Today a collector’s edition, people who ever owned and used a Nokia 3310 (almost all of India and the world) carry nothing but fond memories of the device. Be it the message limit or the crazy ‘Snakes’ game, every aspect of the Nokia 3310 is memorable and something the pre-smartphone generation cherishes.
And if the rumour mill is to be believed, the once ubiquitous Nokia 3310 is all set to make a comeback! No, we kid you not. HMD Global, the present owner of the Nokia brand is said to be relaunching the Nokia 3310 all over again. Just like Nokia as a brand has proved to be quite a phoenix, will it be that Nokia 3310 recreate the magic that it engulfed us in nearly two decades ago? That is something we can only wait and watch. HMD has been cashing in on the nostalgia factor with Nokia and what better nostalgia than Nokia 3310? There are still no details known of the relaunch and it is unclear if the Nokia 3310 2017 will be a smartphone or a feature phone – and based on what platform. But one thing is confirmed – irrespective of the OS it be based on, the Nokia 3310 2017 is bound to be heavy on battery, a rugged device and (hopefully) a water resistant smartphone too!
Another new thing HMD is planning with Nokia is reviving the Nokia N series devices. In its heyday, most Nokia flagships began with Nokia N and Nokis N series was the mark of a classy smartphone. The Nokia N8, one of the late Nokia flagships has been the strongest selling flagship too and in the early days of Android, Nokia N8 was much preferred over Android smartphones owing to its design, speed and performance. Nokia N series move to the smartphone format and though not Android, the devices were definitely ahead of their times in terms of design as well as performance. According to reports, HMD has filed a patent for Nokia N series or NOKIAN patent once again in China and this could signal a revival of the N series flagship smartphones. It would definitely be extremely interesting to see HMD line up some of the most iconic Nokia phones once again with their 2017 versions. Samsung Galaxy S8 codenamed Baikal to launch in 2 versions with 5.8 inch and 6.2 inch display
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, owned by Foxconn, has already launched Nokia 6, their first ever Nokia device in China, Though for now the smartphone is a China specific, HMD is all set to launch multiple other Nokia smartphones globally in international markets. The brand already has an event scheduled for February 26th, right before Mobile World Congress at Barcelona Spain and is expected to announce their flagship the Nokia P1 at the event. Nokia is trying to make a comeback in the market and going by initial news, the brand’s nostalgia value is helping it succeed. The Nokia 6 sale saw the smartphone sell out in a flash and the phone, despite coming with average specifications and features has still managed to garner positive reviews.
If the news of Nokia 3310 and Nokia N series getting revived comes true, it will be one of the best news for Nokia fans and we can already see the popularity of Nokia rising once again! We only hope the rumours are not rumours and we do get to see a Nokia 3310 2017 edition soon!
