With the spate of rumours continuing unabated, Samsung Galaxy S8 has turned into one of the hottest smartphones of 2017. There isn’t a day when we hear a new rumour of the upcoming Samsung flagship, Samsung Galaxy S8 and the device is leaked in photos. So far, from launching at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona to the launched pushed back to April and then May, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has seen it all. And now, there’s finally something that looks to be more than rumours – something very solid. The Twitter tipster @evleaks or better known as Evan Blass has let leak that Samsung Galaxy S8 will not be launching at Mobile World Congress as expected but instead of April or May, the launch date is set in March. Apart from the launch date, he also leaked images and specifications of Samsung Galaxy S8.
Now that there’s nothing secret about the Samsung Galaxy S8 anymore, let us take a look at what Evan Blass has shared. The Samsung Galaxy S8 launch is expected to be held on 29th March 2017 and the phone will be unveiled globally then. After the launch, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be up for sale post a few days. There is no clue as to when the Samsung Galaxy S8 will launch in India but the smartphone is likely to come to the country in late April. In terms of features and specifications, the leaks only confirm a lot of what we’ve known so far in terms of the display and the camera. There are no surprises hidden in the Samsung Galaxy S8 and unless Samsung comes up with some spectacular new feature, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be a marginal upgrade in some features and outstanding in the others.
The most important thing about the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be the design. In the past, Samsung has been associated with their rectabgular home button placed right under the display in every smartphone. But with the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung is finally doing away with the home button. In terms of looks and design, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is a complete glass wonder with hardly any bezel space. The fingerprint sensor has been shifted to the back of the device, next to the camera and will be vertical and rectangular. Unlike what rumours suggested, Samsung Galaxy S8 will not come with a haptic feedback fingerprint unlocker embedded under the display. But the one thing that is different in the design is the lack of Samsung branding which is visible nowhere in the front. So will there be no branding? As @evleaks clarifies in another tweet, Samsung has shifted the way it brands the smartphones. “Those bemoaning the dearth of branding on the S8 will be pleased to learn that the top 1/4″ of screen will be hard-coded to display SAMSUNG.” reads his tweet. Clearly, Samsung is shifting strategies with Samsung Galaxy S8 knowing the pressure on the device. Coming to the display, Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to launch in 2 display sizes – both quite large than the current flagships – 5.7 inches and 6.2 inches. Both the versions are expected to come with dual-edged displays and larger screen to body ratio making the device similar to the present ones in terms of size. Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to run Snapdragon 835, the latest Qualcomm processor launched at CES 2017. The smartphone will come with 64 GB internal memory and 4 GB RAM. There will be a memory expansion option. The images leaked show no buttons on the sides of the device except for a single button the right. However, it is still unclear what the role of the button will be – will it be a power on/off button or will it be for other purposes? Along with the fingerprint sensor, the camera button and the flash are also on the back of the device. The camera in Samsung Galaxy S8 will be a 12 MP shooter and the front will be a 8 MP camera. However, Samsung is expected to being in some tweaks and changes to improve the camera and the picture quality. Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be a slimmer and faster device. However, one of the major concerns for device users and also for Samsung fans is the battery of the Samsung Galaxy S8. The device is expected to come with a battery not larger than 3500 mAh. However, the question arises looking at the large display and the screen to body ration – would a 3500 mAh battery suffice? Samsung is expected tolaunch battery saver features along with the Samsung Galaxy S8 to help the battery of the device last long. Samsung Galaxy S8 will also come with Bixby and Kestra – the two AI assistants that will take the experience to a completely new level. There is not much known about these assistants expect for the fact that they will rival Siri and Google Assistant. March is still some way off and we’re sure to hear a lot more other details by then!
