Samsung has started the new year on a strong note and launched not 1, but 3 devices all in one go. The smartphones, which are a part of the Samsung Galaxy A series devices are all upgrades to the already existing Samsung Galaxy A Series. Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy A3, Samsung Galaxy A5 and Samsung Galaxy A7, 2017 version smartphones. These smartphones come with considerable upgrades over their predecessors and since many details regarding the devices had already been leaked, there is not too much of a surprise that Samsung fans received in terms of the features and specifications. Just like before, Samsung Galaxy A3 is the most basic version followed by Samsung Galaxy S5 which is the slightly advanced version and then Samsung Galaxy A7, which is the most premium of all the Galaxy A series smartphones. All the phones are considerably different from each other.
For now, Samsung Galaxy A3, Samsung Galaxy A5 and Samsung Galaxy A7 are launched only in Europe and their global launch is pending. Samsung is expected to unveil the devices soon even in India. With CES looming close, it is quite possible that Samsung make an announcement for the global version of these devices during one of the events. The phones will go up for sale in Europe only next month but the Indian launch and availability ios expected to be around January end, though Samsung has not disclosed their plans for India. Apart from the Samsung Galaxy A3, Samsung Galaxy A5 and Samsung Galaxy A7, Samsung also plans to launch another device and has already sent out invitations for a grand even in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, scheduled on 5th January, 2017, right during CES. It was the A series expected to launch on 5th Jan but since the phones are launched, it could be a new device Samsung has planned.
Samsung Galaxy A3, as mentioned above, is the most basic of the three devices. Samsung Galaxy A3 comes runs Android Marshamallow under the hood. Coming to the display, Samsung Galaxy A3 is the smallest with a 4.7 inches Super AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 312 ppi. Under the hood of Samsung Galaxy A3 runs an octa-core, 1.6 GHz Cortex A 53 processor. The phone comes in just one internal memory variant, 16GB but there is a memory card slot that supports expansion up to 256GB. The RAM is 2GB. Samsung Galaxy A3 comes with 13 MP rear end camera and 8MP front end snapper. The battery is 2350 mAh battery and the phone comes with a fingerprint sensor. Samsung Galaxy A3 is available in multiple colours – Black Sky, Gold Sand, Blue Mist and Peach Cloud are the 4 shades the smartphone will be available in Europe. Coming to the Samsung Galaxy A5, which is the mid-ranger in the A series, Samsung Galaxy A5 also runs Android Marshamallow. Apart from the operating system, there are a few other similarities the phone shares with Samsung Galaxy A3. Samsung Galaxy A5 comes with a 5.2 inches full HD Super AMOLED display with a pixel resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and pixel density of 424 ppi. Samsung Galaxy A5 is powered by a Exynos Octa-core processor. The phone, just like Samsung Galaxy A3 comes in just one internal memory variant, that is 32GB but the memory card slot supports 256 GB expansion. The RAM is 3GB. Samsung Galaxy A5 comes with 16 MP rear end camera as well as a 16 MP front end cameras, making it the first official Selfie phone of 2016. The battery is a 3000 mAh non-removable battery and the phone comes with a fingerprint sensor. Samsung Galaxy A5 comes in the same colours as Samsung Galaxy A3. The phone is also waterproof and dust resistant. Apple iPhone 7 follows Samsung Galaxy Note 7, bursts into flames and destroys an entire car!
Now, the final and the most impressive of the lot, Samsung Galaxy A7. Despite being the most premium in the Samsung Galaxy A series, Samsung Galaxy A7 comes with Android Marshmallow out of the box. there’s no word on whether there will be an Android Nougatb upgrade. Samsung Galaxy A7 is water and dust resistant. The phone comes with a full HD Super AMOLED 5.7 inches display making it quite a large device. The display resolution is 1080 x 1920 pixels (and the pixel density is 386 ppi. The phone runs Exynos 7870 Octa Octa-core 1.9 GHz processor under the hood. Samsung Galaxy A7 comes in the same internal memory variants as Samsung Galaxy A5. The phone comes with 32GB internal memory and 3 GB RAM with space to expand memory up to 256 GB. The cameras are also the same with 16 MP front and rear end shooter. The phone comes with a 3600 mAh battery and a finger print sensor. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime with fingerprint sensor comes to India for Rs 18,790
Looking at the features and specifications, while Samsung Galaxy A3 is the budget device, Samsung Galaxy A5 and Samsung Galaxy A7 are pretty similar with Samsung Galaxy A7 being just the larger phone. In terms of display, it is Samsung Galaxy A5 that is the winner. Samsung Galaxy A7 is also slightly larger than the 5.5 inch flagships making it more of a phablet than a smartphone. Whether the specifications will stay the same for India or will there be any slight regional modifications is yet to be seen. With the phone expected to launch around the end of January, the wait is not too long. The phones will be priced in a similar range by Samsung. But for now, with one major launch out of the way, all eyes are on Samsung, awaiting their major announcement at CES 2017, which is just one day away. Also, the Kuala Lumpur event might see the global launch of the A series or an all new device. Well, time shall soon tell!
