In an effort to make navigating through settings menu easier for users, WhatsApp has revamped its layout and brought new icons for a variety of tools. While the settings menu’s front page now has a ‘Payments’ option,
users can now view more data usage and storage information too as the update is now live for beta testers on the app’s Android version that has the build number v2.19.45.
The ‘Payments’ option, showing a history of payments and details of the linked bank account, comes in time for the rollout of WhatsApp Pay to markets outside India. While the tools in the ‘Help’ section now have updated dedicated icons while the ‘Accounts’ section too is updated with iconography in the sub-sections.
In lieu of privacy of the users, another update is expected soon as the app is all set to introduce ‘Group Invitation’ feature which will require admins to take prior permission of the members before adding them into the group, an invite which would not remain active after 72 hours. This means that the users will then have to wait for a new invitation or use a group invite link but won’t get two invitations from the same group at the same time. Still under development, the feature will soon be enabled for both Android and iOS users.
Meanwhile, in the current update, the redesigned ‘Network Usage’ section has been broken down to show the total data used and how much data has each section been consuming. Apart from showing the number of times one shared their locations among the members in a group, the redesigned UI will also show the total messages exchanged, the number of photos, videos and GIFs.
While the new features are available, as of now, on the beta version 2.19.45 through the Google Play Beta Program, the final build will have a build number 2.19.45+. Spotted first by WABetaInfo, the changes brought by the beta update appear to be mostly functional in nature and are claimed by the beta watcher to be soon rolled out via the stable channel too. However, a release date is yet to be revealed.
