New Delhi: YouTube Music, Google’s new music subscription service, was launched in India on Wednesday.

In its official blog, Google wrote, “We are introducing YouTube Music, our made-for-music app with the magic of YouTube: making the world of music easier to explore and more personalized than ever to users in India.”

YouTube director of product management T Jay Fowler said, “We know that India loves watching music videos on YouTube — be it the vibrancy, choreography, stars and glamour. Music from India has always been so much more than just the audio.”

“With the launch of YouTube Music, all the emphasis is on the familiar to make every user experience richer as they start using the service,” he added.

YouTube Music Premium launched both the free and paid version of the music platform. While the free version of the music app will be ad-supported, the paid version of the app will be available for a meagre sum of Rs 99 per month.

Apart from this, there’s another good news for Google Play Music subscribers. Google announced that if one is a subscriber of Google Play Music, one will get a YouTube Music Premium membership as part of one’s subscription each month.

Google Play Music subscribers would continue to access all of their purchased music, uploads and playlists in Google Play Music just like previously. Also, Samsung Galaxy S10 users will be able to enjoy four months of free access to YouTube Premium, which includes access to YouTube Music.
