Denver-based Manick Sorcar, who produces laser and animation shows celebrating Indian heritage, was recently felicitated by the state of Colorado for completing 25 consecutive years of his animation films being telecast by the PBS.
Colorado Governor John Kickenlooper said, “For a quarter of a century, your animation films have taken children on a special journey to the lands of India where they have learned more of her culture and people.”
“These films have taught that diversity is an asset and what brings us together is our common thread of humanity irrespective of where we grow up,” said Hickenlooper in a congratulatory message to Sorcar. “Your creative work has served as a cultural bridge between the East and the West by helping to advance multicultural understanding and friendship. Your work continues to make Colorado, the United States, and India proud.”
“At first it was ‘Deepa & Rupa’, which captivated the audience. It was then joined by ‘The Sage and the Mouse’ and ‘Sniff’ in 1994, which, too, were very popular. Three years later ‘The Woodcutter’s Daughter’ was a part of it, and the demand continued to grow. In 2003 ‘Rule of Twenty-One’ was added to the group. All together a package of five award-winning animation films delighted the viewers year-after-year as holiday favorites on the Rocky Mountain PBS channel and still going strong,” Sorcar told The Indian Diaspora.
Sorcar’s animations have been shown on television channels around the world, including a national telecast by the state owned broadcasting network Doordarshan in India. They have also been displayed at various international film festivals and universities.
Manick Sorcar is the son the legendary magician P C Sorcar.
