India had gone into the tournament without cricket greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble who all decided to skip the tournament. And the captaincy was given to a young but charismatic MS Dhoni, who later on, went on to become one of India's most successful captains.
