Anushka Sharma

Anushka Sharma is an Indian film actress, model and film producer, and the girlfriend of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli. She made her Bollywood debut in 2008 opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, for which she received her first Filmfare Award nomination under the category of Best Actress and Best Female Debut. Anushka Sharma will now be seen opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the film Jab Harry Met Sejal, releasing on August 4. Anushka Sharma was born on 1 May, 1988, in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh to Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma and Ashima Sharma. She has an elder brother, Karnesh Sharma, who is in the Merchant Navy and is a co-owner in her film production company Clean Slate Films. Anushka Sharma was raised in Bangalore and did her schooling in the Army School. She has a degree in Arts from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. She is a very popular actress in India and is also the ambassador of many brands and has an active presence on social media. As a youngster, Anushka Sharma wanted to pursue a career in modeling or journalism. She began her modelling career in Mumbai at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) after enrolling herself at Elite Model Management. At LFW, Anushka Sharma was a model for Wendell Rodrickss Les Vamps Show and then she was picked at the Spring Summer 2007 Collection as Rodricks' grand finale model. Anushka Sharma then started her acting career and made her debut in Aditya Chopras' Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi movie in 2008 and was cast opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Her role was of Tani Sahni who is a young bride to a middle-aged man. The film received positive reviews and became a commercial success and it emerged as the second highest grossing Hindi film of the year 2008. Anushka Sharma had a three movie contract with Yash Raj Films.

Her second movie released two years later and Sharma played the leading lady in crime-comedy Badmaash Company. Sharma completed her three movie contract with Yash Raj after starring in Band Baaja Baaraat in 2010. Her role was of Shruti Kakkar, an ambitious middle class Punjabi girl who has her own wedding planning business. The critics praised Anushka Sharmas role in the movie was a moderate box office success. In 2011, she then did her first movie outside the Yash Raj banner and starred opposite Akshay Kumar in Nikhil Advanis Patiala House. The same year she signed another fil in the Yash Raj Banner with her Band Bajaa Baraat starrer Ranveer Singh for the movie Ladies vs Ricky Bahl.

In 2012 she played a supporting actress role in Yash Rajs Jab Tak Hai Jaan starring Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. This marked her fifth movie with Yash Raj banner and second with Shah Rukh Khan. Her role in the movie was praised by the critics and she won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie. She played one of the biggest roles of her career in 2014 in the Rajkumar Hiranis religious satire PK with Aamir Khan who plays the role of an alien. She portrayed the role of Jagat Janani who is a television journalist and befriends an alien. The film gained critical acclaims and emerged as the highest grossing Bollywood film with world-wide revenue of US$100 million. Anushka Sharma then took a new professional step in 2014 after she launched her own production company with her brother and the production company was named Clean Slate Films.

The first release of her production company was Navdeep Singhs thriller NH10 in the year 2015. Anushka herself played the lead role in the movie and received critical acclaims for her role. The film also emerged as a box office success. She then played the lead role in Anurag Kashyaps Bombay Velvet co-starring with Ranbir Kapoor and Karan Johar. Her role was of a jazz singer Rosie Noronha. However, the film wasnt successful at the box office and the movie failed in recovering its 1.2 bilion rupees investment. In the same year she featured in Zoya Akhtars Dil Dhadakne Do starring with Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar. She was nominated in the Filmfare Awards for Best Actress in NH10 and Best Supporting Actress in Dil Dhadakne Do.

In 2016, she re-united with Yash Raj Films and played the role of Aarfa Hussain in the movie Sultan co starring Salman Khan. She played the role of a wrestler from Haryana. The movie had a tremendous support in the box office and it earned US$ 74 million worldwide. The movie ranks among Indian cinema's biggest earners.

In October 2016, Anushka Sharma was seen in Karan Johar's romantic drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil opposite Ranbir Kapoor and costarring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In 2017, Anushka Sharma was seen in her own production, a romantic comedy entitled Phillauri alongside Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma. Her next release is Jab Harry Met Sejal on August 4. The film is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Imtiaz Ali.

Anushka Sharma has been in a relationship with cricketer Virat Kohli for a few years now and the pair has recently begun to open up a bit about their love for each other.

Anushka Sharma is a practicing vegetarian since 2015. She has confessed to being a victim of anxiety disorder. She also supports multiple causes and charities and has been an active gender equality and animal rights supporter.
