Bhumi Pednekar is an Indian actress and one of the newest talents of Bollywood who made her debut in 2015 in Yash Raj banners Dum Laga Ke Haisha opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. She doesnt have any filmy background and she used to work as a casting professional under Yash Raj Films casting director Shanoo Sharma and she used to cast for the role of the leading lady. For her debut in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, she had to gain 12 kgs and her role was critically acclaimed and the movie was commercially as well as critically very successful. She won the Best Female Debut award in the 61st Filmfare awards. After a brilliant debut, Bhumi Pednekar is now working for her upcoming movie Manmarziyan opposite Ayushmann Khurrana once again.Born on 18th July 1989 in Mumbai in a family with a non filmy background, Bhumis father is Maharashtrian and her mother belongs to Haryana. Bhumi completed her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir in Juhu, Mumbai and then joined first Abhimanyu Ray and later Shanoo Sharma of Yash Raj Films as a casting director. Her job was to audition actors for supporting roles. She has casted over 800 people and has worked 15 to 16 Yash Raj Films and also has cued actors such as Ranveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra, Sushant Singh Rajput and on most occasions shed end up reading the actors lines. Bhumi had a passion for acting from her childhood days and she considered Rani Mukherjee and Karishma Kapoor as her idol. Her love and passion for acting gave her a chance to work as a lead in the movie. She gave approximately 100 auditions for the role and one day she got a call from Shanoo stating that she has been selected for the role and she had to gain 12kg weight for her role. In the movie, she played the role of Sandhya Varma who is an educated but overweight woman and is not liked by his husband. The role of the husband is played by Ayushmann Khurrana. The story was set in Haridwar and Rishikesh and it is also the first movie to be entirely shot in the twin temple towns. The film received a huge response from the audience and the movie won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. Bhumis role also received critical acclamation and she won the Best Female Debut Award in the 61st Filmfare Awards. She also won the best female debut in the 11th Star guilds award, 22nd screen awards, Zee Cine Awards of 2016, 2016 Stardust Awards and in the 17th IIFA Awards. After her debut, it is reported that she has signed a three film deal with Yash Raj films and immediately after the release of her movie, she started losing weight and had already lost reasonable weight for her upcoming movie. In the same year, she appeared in Y-Films mini web-series called Mans world. The four part series raised issues like gender inequality and it premiered on YouTube on 29th September 2015. Apart from Bhumi Pednekar, the series also featured actresses like Parineeti Chopra, Kalki Koechlinand Richa Chadda. Bhumi will be seen next in a movie called Manmarziyan. The movie is produced by Anand Rai and directed by Sameer Sharma. Bhumi is featured opposite Ayushmann Khurrana who was her co-star in her debut movie.
