Rohit Sharma is an Indian cricketer who is a right handed batsman and he also bowls occasionally and is a right-arm off break bowler. He made his debut in 2007 against Ireland and he also plays for Mumbai in the domestic cricket. Sharma has the highest individual score in One Day Internationals (ODI) with 264 runs scored against Sri Lanka. He is the only cricketer to have two double centuries in ODI cricket. He made his Test match debut in 2013 and scored consecutive centuries in his first two matches. He leads the Mumbai Indians team in the Indian Premiere League (IPL) and is the third skipper after Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir to lead his team and win the IPL title twice. Born on 30th April 1987 in Bansod, Nagpur in Maharashtra, Rohit was born to Purnima Sharma and Gurunath Sharma. Rohit speaks Telugu as his mother hails from Visakhapatnam. His father worked as a caretaker at a transport firm house and had a very low income. As the family was unable to meet the financial needs, Rohit stayed with his grandparents and uncles and was raised up in Borivali. He would visit his parents only during the weekends. Sharma started his schooling in Our Lady of Vailankanni High School in Borivali, Mumbai. During his school days, he joined a cricket camp in 1999 and played under coach Dinesh Lad in the camp. His coach was impressed by his passion for cricket and he asked him to change his school and join Swami Vivekanand International School which had better cricket facilities and Lad himself was a coach in the school. Sharma didnt had the money to afford such a big school so the coach got him scholarship and he didnt had to pay a single rupee for four years. Sharma started to play as an off spinner and would bat a bit. Lad noticed Sharmas ability in batting and asked him to open the innings. Rohit played the Harris and Giles Shield school cricket tournament and on his debut as an opener, he scored a century. Rohit then made his debut in the Deodhar Trophy in March 2005 playing for the West Zone against Central Zone in the same tournament, he scored 142 runs in 123 balls playing against North Zone. He also played well for India A team in Abudhabi and Australia brought him into limelight and he was selected in the 30 member probable's for Champions Trophy. In 2006, he made his debut in Ranji Trophy for Mumbai and in a match against Gujarat, he scored 205 off 267 balls and in the tournament finale, he scored a half century against Bengal. Rohit Sharma was selected for Indias tour of Ireland in 2007 and he made his ODI debut against Ireland at Belfast. Rohit made his first T20 half century against South Africa in the T20 match of ICC World Cup Twenty20 and helped India to reach semi finals o the tournament. He was also declared as the man of the match for his innings. His first ODI half century was against Pakistan in November 2007 and he was then selected for CB series in Australia where he scored 66 in the first final at Sydney. However there was a downfall in his performance in ODIs and he was replaced by Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli. Rohit then again concentrated in Ranji Trophy and scored a triple century in the tournament and was once again selected for the ODI team for the tri nation tournament held in Bangladesh. Sharma was selected in the Indian Test team in February 2010 but he didnt play in any of the matches. Sharmas first ODI century was against Zimbabwe in 2010 where he scored 114 runs. He again scored a century in May 2010 in the tri series against Sri Lanka scoring 101*. However, he wasnt included in the 2011 squad of India for the World Cup. Sharma was then selected in the ODI team against West Indies and he won the man of the match award in the first ODI of the series for his 68* out of 75 balls. He also scored 86 runs of 91 balls in the third innings, and the score came when India was struggling at 92 for 6. Due to his good performance throughout the tournament, he won the Man of the series award. In 2013, he was experimented as an opening batsman with Shikhar Dhawan in the Champions Trophy. The opening pair played well and helped India in winning the Champions Trophy as well as the Tri Nation series in West Indies. In Australias tour of India, he scored 141* and then 209 runs off 158 balls. He broke the record of most sixes in an ODI innings. Sharma then made his test debut in 2013 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata against West Indies and scored 117 in his debut match and then followed up with 111* innings in Mumbai and became the third Indian after Mohammad Azharuddin and Saurav Ganguly to score two back to back centuries in their first two tests. In 2014, Sharma made a world record by scoring 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Garden and made a record of highest individual score in a ODI match. He broke the record of Virender Sehwags 219 runs. Sharma also has a successful career in IPL and was first selected in the Deccan Chargers and then in Mumbai Indians. In the IPL of 2009, Sharma was the vice captain of Deccan Chargers. After being auctioned in the Mumbai Indians team, Sharma was promoted as the captain of the team in 2013. He helped Mumbai Indians in winning the IPL Trophy twice. Sharma has one IPL century and a hat-trick to his name. Sharma got engaged to his childhood friend Ritika Sajdeh in April 2015 and they tied the knot on December 13 2015.
