Akhilesh Yadav

Akhilesh Yadav is an Indian politician and the incumbent Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He became the Chief Minister in March 2012 and became the youngest Chief Minister, holding the post at the age of 38. Akhilesh Yadav played an important role in the 2012 assembly elections for Samajwadi Party. Akhilesh Yadav belongs to one of the politically most active families with his father being the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav, his uncle Ram Gopal Yadav and Shivpal Singh Yadav as well as his cousin Dharmendra Yadav all being actively involved in politics. Akhilesh Yadav has been actively involved in politics since 2000 and is known for development in rural life and working for the welfare of the poor farmers as well as the other weaker sections of the society. He is known to be one of the young faces in Samajwadi Party as well as in Indian politics.Born on 1st July 1973, in a village called Saifai in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh completed his schooling at Dholpur Military School in Rajasthan. His father Mulayam Singh Yadav is the founder of Samajwadi Party and a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Akhileshs mother name is Malti Devi. After the completion of his schooling in Rajasthan, he acquired a Bachelors and Masters degree course in Civil Engineering from Mysore University and later studied at the University of Sydney holding the degree in Environmental Engineering. Akhilesh Yadav is an engineer, agriculturist and a socio-political worker by profession. Akhilesh Yadav entered into politics as a member of Lok Sabha and he received his first success from Kannauj constituency in 2000. Thereafter he also won the Lok Sabha elections for the next two consecutive terms. Akhilesh Yadav has been the member in Civil Supplies as well as in Food and Public Distribution committee. He served as the member of Committee of Ethic from 2000 to 2001 and as a member of the Committee on Environment and forest as well as the Committee on Social Science and Technologies from 2002 to 2004. In the 2004 elections for the 14th Lok Sabha, he was re elected for a second term. During the second term as a member of Lok Sabha, he held the membership in Committee on Urban Development, Committee on Estimates, Committee on Provision of Computers to various departments. In the 15th Lok Sabha elections of 2009, he got re elected for the third consecutive term and from 2009 to 2012, he served as the member of Committee on Environment and Forests, Committee on Science & Technology and the JPC on the 2G spectrum scam. On 10th March 2012, he was appointed as the leader of the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh. In the 2012 legislative assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh, the party registered a victory with a clear majority in the house and formed the government in the state .For the first time, SP was head of the UP government for full 5 years. This was expected as the fifth term of Mulayam Singh Yadav as the Chief Minister but he selected Akhilesh Yadav as the new Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh Yadav also became the youngest Chief Minister Uttar Pradesh ever had. On 2nd May 2012, he resigned as Member of the 15th Lok Sabha to become Member of Legislative Council in the state of Uttar Pradesh.Married to Dimple Yadav on 24th November 1999, the couple has two daughters Aditi and Tina and a son Arjun. Akhilesh Yadavs wife is also a politician. Akhilesh Yadavs government came into controversy during the Muzaffarnagar riots in which the clashes between Hindu and Muslim communities in August-September 2013 led to the death of atleast 9 people and 34 injured. An indefinite curfew was also imposed by the state government. The riot has been described as the worst violence in Uttar Pradesh in recent history. The Supreme Court blamed the state government for such a situation. This was also the first time in 20 years when the army was deployed in the state. By 17th September, the curfew was lifted and the army was withdrawn from the riot affected areas. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav blamed political conspiracy behind the riots and also warned of strict actions against those found guilty. Jobs were announced to the kins of the people who were killed in the riots. Akhilesh Kumar is recognized by his party for his contribution in the campaigning of the party during the Vidhan Sabha election and Akhilesh Yadavs innovative style during the campaign became very popular among the young voters. Akhilesh has a keen interest in football and cricket and his favorite pastimes include reading, listening to music and watching films. Akhilesh Yadav is also expected to be the face of Samajwadi Pary in the upcoming legislative elections in Uttar Pradesh in 2017.
