Akkineni Nagarjuna is an Indian actor, producer, television presenter, and entrepreneur who stars primarily in Telugu and Hindi movies. He has won a number of awards with two of them being National Film Awards. He made his film debut in 1967 as a child artist in Telegu movie Sudigundalu, which was screened at the Tashkent Film Festival, and the International Film Festival of India. He has acted in over ninety films in lead, supporting and cameo roles, and they include Bollywood and Kollywood films.
Nagarjuna made his debut as a lead actor in 1986 Telegu movie Vikram opposite actress Shobana Chandrakumar Pillai. The film was a remake of the 1983 Hindi film Hero and it was said to have been a box office hit. The same year he starred in movies Captain Nagarjun and Aranyakanda and both were a flop at the box office. He has also played host for television game show Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu, which was presented in Telugu, and for Bigg Boss Telugu season 3.
From 1987 onwards, Nagarjuna acted in 88 movies, and in 1996 he won the National Film Award for Ninne Pelladata for Best Feature Film in Telugu, and the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Telugu. In 1997 he won the National Film Award, Nandi Award, and Filmfare Award South for his role in Annamayya. As a producer, he won the Nandi Award for Ninne Pelladatha, Prema Katha, Yuvakudu, Manmadhudu, and Rajanna, and the Filmfare Award South for Ninne Pelladatha and Manam.
Akkineni Nagarjuna was born on August 29, 1959 in Madras, Tamil Nadu to Akkineni Nageswara Rao, who was a veteran film actor and producer in the Telegu film industry, and Annapurna Kollipara. He studied at the Hyderabad Public School and Little Flower Junior College, and completed one year of his Bachelor of Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He married Lakshmi Daggubati in 1984 and has one son with her, Naga Chaitanya. After his divorce from her in 1990, he married actress Amala Mukherjee in 1992 and has one son with her, actor Akhil Akkineni.
Nagarjuna, who has produced around 31 movies, was last seen in 2019 Telegu comedy film Manmadhudu 2 opposite Rakul Preet Singh. He will next be seen in 2020 Hindi movie Brahmastra alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Mouni Roy. Written and directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar, the movie will serve as the first film in a planned trilogy.
