Arjun Rampal is an Idian actor, producer and a former fashion model. He is a well known face in the Indian film industry and he is known for his roles in movies like Om Shanti Om, Rock On, Pyaar Ishq aur Mohabbat and Aankhen. Rampal made his debut in Bollywood in the 2001 release Pyaar Ishq aur Mohabbat and he was nominated for the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance. His role in the movie Rock On!! received positive critical response and the movie also helped him in winning the National Award for Best Supporting Actor as well as the Filmfare Award for best supporting actor. Rampal is also a producer and he established his own production company titled Chasinng Ganesha and under his banner the movie I See You was released. He is also involved in many business ventures.
Arjun Rampal was born on 26th November 1972 in Guwahati in a family with a military background. His maternal grandfather was a Sikh whereas his maternal grandmother was Dutch. Rampal's parents got divorced when he was young and then he stayed with his mother after the separation. His mother was a teacher and he completed his schooling from St. Patrick School and later joined the Kodaikanal International School. After completing his higher education, he shifted to Delhi and graduated with a degree in Economics Honors from the well known Hindu College of Delhi University.
Interested in modelling from a very young age, he started his career as a model after completing his studies. A tall frame and chiselled featured helped him become India’s Supermodel. Many successful modelling jobs followed this success and he was famous in the industry. He married his long time girl friend and another famous model Mehr Jesia in 1998. Deciding to take his career forward to bollywood, he decided to venture towards movies. He made his acting debut in the movie Pyaar Ishq aur Mohabbat and he shared the screen with Sunil Shetty, Aftab Shivdasani and Kirti Reddy. The movie received positive response and Rampal's acting in the movie was appreciated by the critics. He was nominated for the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance in the movie and he was able to win the Star Screen and IIFA awards for best male debut. However, after a successful debut, Rampal was unsuccessful in his next few films. His next release which included Ashu Trikha's Deewaanapan and Ashok Mehta's Moksha was a box office flop. He was next seen in the movie Aankhein released in 2002 and he starred with actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Sushmita Sen and Aditya Pancholi. The movie did well in the box office and became the fourth highest grossing movie of 2002. His next release Dil Hai Tumhara, however, flopped at the box office. Another movie of Rampal Dil Ka Rishta received critical acclamation. He was cast opposite Aishwarya Rai. The movie did moderate business at the box office.
His releases like Tehzeeb, Asambhav, Vaada, Elaan, Yakeen and Ek Ajnabee did average business at the box office. He was then seen in multi starrer movie Darna Zaroori Hai but the movie was a flop. He made his comeback with the 2006 release Don. The movie was a remake of 1978 movie Don and Rampal played the role of the character that was played by Pran in the original movie. The movie was a hit and it became Rampal's first hit movie. This is said to be the turning point in his career. Later, he established his own production company titled Chasinng Ganesha and under his banner the movie I See You was released. He was then seen in a negative role in the movie Om Shanti Om with co-stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. The movie is the biggest hit of Rampal's career and he received critical acclamation for his role in the movie and also won the Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role and also was nominated at the IIFA, Star Screen and Apsara ceremonies. In 2008, Rampal got featured in Rock On!! and portrayed the character of Joe who is the lead guitarist of a band. The movie was a hit and Rampal was widely appreciated. Not only did it bolster Arjun Rampal's fan following, it also helped him win his big awards. He won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor as well as the Filmfare Award for best supporting actor for the movie. After that, Arjun was seen in many commercially successful movies including Sajid Khan's Housefull and Raajneeti. He was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for the latter. In 2011, Rampal played a negative role in Ra One starring opposite Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The movie was a commercial success and his role in the movie received critical acclamations and became one of the highest grossing movies of the year. His last few releases like Heroine, Ajab Gazabb Love, D Day and Roy have failed to make an impact at the box office.
Arjun Rampal's recent release is the sequel to Rock On - Rock On 2 where is is reprising the role of Joe from the first movie. The movie released in 2016. Another movie lined up for release in Kahani 2 starring Vidya Balan in th lead and another movie which is a biopic called addy. He has two daughters Mahikaa and Myra.
