Arnab Goswami is a famous Indian Journalist and the Ex - Editor in Chief of Times Now news channel. Arnab Goswami started his illustrious career as a journalist with The Telegraph in Kolkata before moving to DD Metro and then to NDTV 24X7 and then Times Now. His daily news and analysis show - The Newshour has been a top ranked show in the category, enjoying a strong TRP since its start. Arnab has a strong social media presence and is rather in news for his frank and audacious comments on current affairs and political opinions.
Arnab was born in Guwahati, Assam on October 9, 1973 to Colonel Manoranjan and Suprabha. His family's strong political ties go back generation. His paternal grandfather - Mr. Rajani Kanta Goswami was a lawyer and a Congress Leader as well as an activist in the independence struggle. On the other hand, his maternal grandfather - Mr. Gauri Sankar Bhattacharya was a Communist and leader of the opposition in Assam for many years. He was also a writer and received the Asam Sahitya Sabha Award. His own father was a colonel in the Indian Army and has also been a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Colonel Manoranjan contested the 1998 Lok Sabha Polls as the BJP candidate for the Guwahati but lost to Congress candidate Bhubaneshwar Kalita. Siddhartha Bhattacharya, a BJP MLA from Guwahati East Constituency is his maternal uncle.
Being an army officer's son, Arnab travelled through the country and did his schooling in bits from various schools. He completed his 10th from St Mary's School, Delhi and 12th from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jabalpur Cantonment. After completing his schooling he pursued his bachelors in Sociology from Hindu College, Delhi University. He completed his Master's in Social Anthropology from St. Antony's College, Oxford University in 1994.
Arnab Goswami started his career with The Telegraph in Kolkata. This was however a small stint and lasted for less than one year. After that, he joined NDTV in 1995. He later shifted to TV News Broadcast with NDTV 24X7 in 1995 as an anchor. He was also a member of the core team of NDTV when they transitioned to a 24X7 news channel. He gained great appreciation for his show the Newsnight and became a rather well known face in the media circles. He worked as a Senior Editor for NDTV 24X7 before moving to Times Now as the Editor in Chief. His daily debate and news analysis show - The Newshour with Arnab became one of the top ranked shows in the category, enjoying phenomenal TRP ratngs and astrong social media following. He resigned from Times Now on November 1, 2016 and is said to continue being in the Television sector but go the entrepreneurial way. Arnab has also authored a book Combating Terrorism: The Legal Challenge.
Arnab has won many awards including the 2003 Asian Television Award for Best Presenter or Anchor (Runner Up), the Society Young Achievers Award for excellence in the field of Media in 2007, Assamese of the Year Award by News Live as well as the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism (TV) by the Indian Express Group in the year 2010.
