Asaduddin Owaisi

Asaduddin Owaisi is an Indian politician who is the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. He made his political debut in 1994 in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, and he is a four-time Member of Parliament, representing the Hyderabad constituency in Lok Sabha.

Coming from a family of politicians, Owaisi entered politics and contested from the Charminar constituency which his party has been winning since 1967. He defeated his nearest rival a breakaway party Majlis Bachao Tehreek's candidate by a margin of 40 thousand votes and succeeded Virasat Rasool Khan as the elected representative from the constituency.


Owaisi was elected to the 10th Andhra Pradesh Assembly in the year 1994-1999, and then for a second term to the 11th Andhra Pradesh Assembly in 1999-2003. In the 1999 election, he defeated his nearest rival Telugu Desam Party candidate Syed Shah Noorul Haq Quadri by 93 thousand votes. Owaisi polled 126 thousand votes in the election. He was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha in 2004-2009 and was succeeded by Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri as the member of the Assembly from the constituency in the 2004 election.

During 2009-2014, Owaisi was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha (second term), then in 2014-2019 to the 16th Lok Sabha (third term), and in 2019 to the 17th Lok Sabha (fourth term).


From 2004 to 2006 Owaisi was a member of the Committee on Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme and a member of the Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment. During 2006-2007 he was a member of the Standing Committee on Defence, and during 2009-2014, he was the leader of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen - Parliamentary Party, a member of the Committee on Defence, and a member of the Committee on Ethics.

During 2014-2019, he was a member of the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, and a member of the Consultative Committee, Ministry of Minority Affairs, as well as leader of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen - Parliamentary Party till 2019.


Owaisi is the Chairman of Hyderabad-based Owaisi Hospital and Research Centre whose origin dates back to late Alhaj Moulana Abdul Wahed Owaisi. The hospital functions in the field of Medical Education, Research and Medical care.


Asaduddin Owaisi was born on May 13, 1969 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh to Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi and Najamunnisa Begum, and he has two brothers. He is married to Farheen Owaisi with whom he has six children. He studied at the Hyderabad Public School and completed his graduation in Bachelor of Arts from Nizam College (Osmania University) in Hyderabad. He is a barrister by profession and studied at Lincoln's Inn of London.
