According to NASA, asteroid 2024 YR4 will pass close to Earth in 2032, and has a 3.1 percent chance striking the planet, with Mumbai and Kolkata, two of India's biggest urban centers, being at the most risk of being a probable target.

2024 YR4 was first reported to the Minor Planet Center the international clearing house for small body positional measurements by the NASA-funded Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) in Chile on January 27, 2025.
