Ayushmann Khurrana is an Indian actor, singer and television host who works predominantly in the Hindi film and television industries. He made his movie debut in 2012 in the film Vicky Donor which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. His venture into television began in 2002 when at the age of 17 he was a part of the reality show Pop Stars on Channel V, which was followed by him winning the second season of reality show MTV Roadies in 2004.
Ayushmann, who has featured in more television shows than movies, is known for his portrayals of ordinary men often plagued with bodily dysfunctions, and the roles have earned him numerous awards among them a National Film Award and three Filmfare Awards. Being an accomplished singer and composer, he has won many awards for the same.
After coming out the winner of the MTV Roadies show in 2004, Ayushmann then featured in Kayamath in 2007, and it was followed by MTV Wassup, The Voice of Youngistaan (Co-host), MTV Fully Faltoo Movie-Cheque De India, MTV Fully Faltoo Movie-Jadoo Ekbar, MTV Roadies Hell Down Under (Anchor), and Ek Thi Rajkumari, all in 2008. In 2008-2009 he was a video jockey for Fantastic 5, and in 2009 he was an anchor for India's Got Talent (Season 1), Rock on with MTV ( Season 1), MTV Roadies (Season 7), Stripped, and Amul Music Ka Maha Muqqabla.
In 2010, Ayushmann made a guest appearance on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, was a presenter on Extra Innings T20 for Indian Premier League (Season 3), and an anchor for the shows India's Got Talent (Season 2), Rock on with MTV (Season 2), and Super Star Buzz. In 2011 he was again an anchor on the shows MTV Grind, MTV Roadies (Season 8), and Just Dance. He was an anchor on the 1st Star Box Office India Awards Ceremony in 2014, and was a co-host at the 25th Star Screen Awards (2018), Zee Cine Awards 2019, and 64th Filmfare Awards (2019).
Where movies are concerned, after making his debut in 2012 with the film Vicky Donor, Ayushmann went on the star in Nautanki Saala! (2013) which got positive reviews. He followed it with Bewakoofiyaan in 2014 but it was a commercial failure, and so was his 2015 movie Hawaizaada. After the setback, he starred in Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015), and the movie was not only a commercial success, but it also won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi at the 61st Filmfare Awards.
In 2017, Ayushmann starred in Meri Pyaari Bindu, which did not do well, and then in Bareilly Ki Barfi, which was a commercial success, and lastly in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, which was not only a commercial success but also earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the 63rd Filmfare Awards. In 2018, he starred in Andhadhun, which became one of the highest-grossing Indian films and also earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor.
Ayushmann delivered another successful movie in 2018, starring in Badhaai Ho alongside Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao, Surekha Sikri, and Sanya Malhotra. The movie emerged as the 9th highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2018, and won four awards at the 64th Filmfare Awards. In 2019, he starred in Article 15, Dream Girl, and Bala with the first two said to have done well at the box office. He will next be seen in 2020 in movies Gulabo Sitabo and Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan.
Ayushmann Khurrana was born Nishant Khurrana on September 14, 1984 in Chandigarh, Punjab to P. Khurrana and Poonam Khurrana, and he has one brother. He studied at St. John's High School and then DAV College in Chandigarh where he majored in English Literature and holds a master's degree in Mass Communication from the School of Communication Studies, Punjab University. He was one of the founding members of DAV College's active theatre group called Aaghaaz and Manchtantra in Chandigarh. He is married to Tahira Kashyap and has two children with her.
