Begum Jaan

Begum Jaan film is based upon the character Begum Jaan who is the madam of the brothel. The story is a period drama that is based on the backdrop if Independence era-1947. Starring Vidya Balan in the lead, the movie shows the struggle of Begum Jaan who strives to save her brothel from being destroyed by the local authorities. The brothel is situated on the border of India and Pakistan and that creates and issue. It is then, things turn ugly and violent.

The film has a solid star cast like Ila Arun, Naseeruddin Shah, Rajit Kapoor, Chunkey Pandey, Pallavi Sharda, Gauahar Khan and more. The film has some of the bold dialogues mouthed by Vidya Balan which is the USP of the film. Also there is cussing and use of abusive words which is the necessity of the film and fits perfect for the role of Begum Jaan.

Also what adds to the film is the voice over of Amitabh Bachchan. The powerful voice of Amitabh Bachchan has made impact while narrating the background of the story. Also, what adds more effect is the background music. Being a period drama, music plays an important role and Begum Jaan makers have lived up to it.

The film is written by Kausar Munir and directed by national award winner Srijit Mukherjee. Srijit also directed the Bengali version of the film named ‘Rajkahini’ in 2015 that stars Rituparna Sengupta in the lead. The film is produced by Mukesh Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt. The music is composed by popular composer Anu Malik. The film was on floors in June 2016 and completed in August 2016 in Ranishwar block of Dumka district in Jharkhand. The first look was out on March 3 and trailer was out on March 14. The film is scheduled to release on April 14, 2017.
