Jamat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) today backed the fatwa issued by the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband against chanting of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and claimed that "attempts" to connect incantation of the slogan with patriotism for the country was an "extremely wrong" thing.

The Congress Party on Saturday criticised both the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband for indulging in 'petty politics' in the name of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and said both sides are trying to divide the nation.

He further stated that the organisation should ensure that this kind of fatwa is not issued, adding that it should also understand to make distinction between worship and praising the nation.
