Ban on Diesel Vehicles in Delhi: Over 250 diesel-run vehicles impounded in Delhi to enforce National Green Tribunal's ban

In their continued effort to enforce the National Green Tribunal's ban on diesel-run vehicles more than 10-years old plying in the national capital, Delhi Traffic Police today impounded over 250 vehicles in the city. Commenting on the same Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Muktesh Chander said, "A total of 263 diesel vehicles were impounded in compliance with the NGT order till 4 P.M. Today. These vehicles can now be released only by court order." Yesterday, 96 vehicles were impounded during a dedicated drive.

Volkswagen Cars India: Volkswagen inaugurated a new diesel engine assembly plant in Chakan

Volkswagen Group India today launched its first engine plant in the country which will assemble 1.5-litre diesel engines for two VW models as well as for the group arm Skoda's Rapid sedan. The Rs 240-crore powertrain plant at its Chakan facility is spread over 3,500 Square meters and can produce 98,000 engines per annum in three shifts, all Bharat Stage III compliant. The company will use the new power trains from the new facility for the models Polo, Vento and Rapid.

SIAM, Tata Motors, Nissan welcome diesel deregulation

Tata Motors and Nissan Motor India, besides automobile industry body SIAM, today welcomed the government's move to deregulate diesel prices in the country. "This is a long-awaited measure and I am extremely happy that the Prime Minister has seized the opportunity of deregulating diesel price at a time when crude prices have fallen resulting in a reduction in diesel price due to the de-regulation," SIAM President Vikram Kirloskar said in a statement.

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) is weighing its options to come out with a Sport Utility Vehicle, which is a 'growing and potential' segment, a top company official said here today. "Yes, we are studying it, as SUV is a potential and growing segment," Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, HCIL, told reporters in reply to a question on plans to launch a compact SUV in the Indian market. Sen, who was here to attend a felicitation ceremony to deliver the 500th car at Manchester Honda, said the company was also working on launching the new generation Jazz next year.
