Dipa Karmakar is the latest sensation from India in Artistic gymnast category in international circuit. Karmakar became the first women from India to qualify for gymnasts final at Olympics. Although, she could not win the medal but won hearts by finishing at fourth spot and missing the bronze medal by a whisker. She was applauded by many for her performance as India saw a potential medal-winner in her for the next Olympics in 2020. The 'Pradunova' routine she performed at the vault is considered to be one of the deadliest vaults of all-time and has seen many injuries in the past. The good news for India is that Dipa Karmakar is just 22 years old and has a bright future in gymnastics. Dipa Karmakar belongs to Agartala, Tripura and was born on August 9, 1993. Her current coach is Bisbeshwar Nandi who has been with her at Rio Olympics 2016. Only a few know that her father, Dulal Karmakar is also a former gymnast who coaches at Sports Authority of India. She started her training when she was just 6 years old. Before gaining fame at Olympics, she had already won bronze medal in Commonwealth Games 2014 and Asian Championships 2015. Karmakar specialises in 'Pradunova' which has only been perfected by few gymnasts in the past. The routine involves two somersaults and one front handspring. Though, she could not win a medal in Rio Olympics 2016, she is a major prospective for India in upcoming competitions.
