Career: Donald Trump graduated in 1968 with a degree in Economics. Trump was influenced by his father and he took the decision to join the family business and make a career in real estate business. He had previously worked with his father when he was a student and after graduation he joined the company. His father's company was titled Elizabeth Trump and Sons and the name was based upon his paternal grandmother. He was able to convince his father to be more liberal in the use of loans based on the equity and was able to finance an expansion of the company's holdings in the Trump apartment complexes.

Donald Trump got control of his father's company in 1971 and one of the first steps he took after that was to rename the company to Trump Organization. He also made a shift of his residence to Manhattan and was successful in making connections with the influential people. He then became involved in large building projects in Manhattan that would offer him the opportunities of earning high profits and also earning public recognition. Trump in 1974 obtained an option on one of Penn Centrals Hotels - The Commodore. This option was unprofitable but had an excellent location and was adjacent to the Grand Central Station. A year later, he signed a partnership agreement with the Hyatt Hotel Corporation which at that time did not have a large downtown hotel. Trump then arranged the financing and renovated the building and constructed a striking new facade of reflective glass designed by architect Der Scutt. The hotel was renamed to Grand Hyatt and it opened in 1980 and became instantly popular and economically successful. This made Trump extremely famous and he was the city's most successful as well as controversial developer.

Trump received national attention after he leased a site at Fifth Avenue adjacent to the famous Tiffany and Company as the location for a monumental $200-million apartment-retail complex designed by Der Scutt and it opened in 1982 and was dubbed as Trump Tower. It was a 58 story building featuring a six-story atrium lined with pink marble and included 80-foot waterfall. Trump later was able to acquire the largest hotel-casino in the world called the Taj Mahal in Atlantic city. Trump however had to face the ups and downs of business after the decline in the markets after 1990. Although Trump never filed for personal bankruptcy, his hotels and casinos have been declared bankrupt four times between 1991 and 2009 to re-negotiate debt with banks and owners of stock and bonds. Trump also has been a part and owners of various shows and sport events on television. Trump has been the owner of the New Jersey Generals in the inaugural of the United States Football League. Trump also has owned part or all of the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA beauty pageants from 1996 until 2015. He also owns the Trump University that ran a real estate training program from 2005 to 2010. Trump has claimed that his net worth is over ten billion dollars whereas in 2015, Forbes estimated his net worth at $4.5 billion and Bloomberg estimated it at $2.9 billion and in 2016 its net worth was $3.0 billion in 2016. These estimates make Trump one of the richest politicians in American History. After a successful business career, Trump floated the idea of running for the president in 1988, 2004 and 2012. He also had the idea of running for the Governor of New York in 2006 and 2014 however he did not enter any of their races. In 1999 Trump filed an exploratory committee to seek the presidential nomination of the Reform Party in 2000. In a poll matching him against George Bush nominee of Republic and Al Gore nominee of democratic showed that Trump had seven percent support. Trump then dropped out of the race. Trump publicly speculated about seeking the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released in March 2011 found Trump leading among potential contenders. A poll released in April 2011 by Public Policy Polling showed Trump having a nine-point lead in a potential contest for the Republican nomination for president while he hasnt yet considered a run. His moves were interpreted by some media as possible promotional tools for his reality show The Apprentice.

Race to the White House: In June 2015, Trump announced his candidacy for President as a Republican. He quickly emerged as one of the front-runner for his partys nomination. In May 2016, his remaining Republican rivals suspended their campaign and Trump was formally nominated for president in July at the 2016 Republican National Convention. His 2016 campaign for President received extensive media coverage. From the onset of the campaigns, he was in controversies for many of his statements and several of his rallies have been accompanied by protests or riots. Trump in his campaign described his positions on renegotiation of US-China trade deals, opposition to particular trade agreements which includes TPP, a stronger enforcement of immigration laws and building a wall along the US-Mexico border, reform of veterans care, replacement of the Affordable Care Act and tax cuts. Trump was in controversies after his statements in which he suggested temporarily banning foreign Muslims from entering the United States, which he later said would focus instead on countries with a proven history of terrorism, until the level of vetting can be raised to screen out potential terrorists. In spite of stringent criticism about his views, Donal Trump created history by defeating the Democratic Representative Hillary Clinton (276 - 218) to become the 45th President of United States of America.
