Fatima Sana Shaikh was born on 11 January, 1992, in Hyderabad, India. According to Edit Platter, Fatima's father Vipan Sharma is a Hindu Brahmin from Jammu while her mother Raj Tabassum is a Muslim from Srinagar. Fatima Sana Shaikh impressed critics and audiences alike as wrestler Geeta Phogat in Dangal (2016), the biopic on Mahavir Singh Phogat with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan playing Mahavir. Dangal is a worldwide blockbuster and Fatima's performance has been highly appreciated as the female wrestler who went on to win the Commonwealth Games gold medal for India. Fatima Sana Shaikh debuted in Bollywood as a child actor in Kamal Haasan's hit film Chachi 420 (1997), known as Avvai Shanmughi in the Tamil version. She appeared in Ishq in the same year, the film starring Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla, Ajay Devgn and Kajol. Fatima also starred in One 2 Ka 4 (2001) with Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, and appeared in films like Bade Dilwala (1998), Tahaan (2008), Bittoo Boss (2012) and Akaash Vani (2013). Fatima has also appeared in television shows in Hindi, like Ladies Special where she Nanda Shinde's daughter Geeti, and Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo where she played Suman, the antagonist. She is also said to have done a TV show called Noor Jahan.

Fatima Sana Shaikh is all set to appear as a female lead opposite her mentor Aamir Khan in the movie Thugs of Hindostan, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif (many say Fatima looks like Katrina). The movie is produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya.
