FC Goa is a professional football club representing Goa in the Indian Super League. The club was launched on 26th August in the first edition of Indian Super League. The club is owned by the Goan Football Club which is founded and owned by the Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, Venugopal Dhoot along with Goan businessmen Dattarj Salagaocar and Shrinivas Dempo. The manager of the club is a legendary Brazillian football player Arthur Anutunes Coimbra. The marquee player of FC Goa is a former Brazil Skipper and World cup winner Lucio. The home stadium for the club is the Fatorda Stadium in Goa. FC Goa finished second in league stage of ISL Season 2. Fatorda stadium in Margao, Goa is the home stadium for the FC Goa. Fatorda stadium is considered one of the finest football stadiums in the country. The stadium has a great history and has hosted big matches like the FIFA World cup qualifier for India and AFC Asian Cup. Its also the main stadium for Goa in the I-League football cup. The stadium was established in 1989 and in 2014 it was renovated and upgraded by the standards of FIFA. It has the capacity of 19,800 with a roof covering 100 percent of the seating area. It is considered one of the most well maintained football grounds in the Indian subcontinent. Tilak Maidan is the training ground for FC Goa which is at Vasco da Gama, Goa. The venue has been hosting matches of the I-League as well as local Goan leagues. The venue has the capacity to accommodate 12,000 spectators. In 2014 it has been upgraded satisfactorily to ensure most FIFA standards are maintained. On 13 April 2014 Venugopal Dhoot won the bidding for the Goa franchise along with Dattaraj Salagaocar and Shrinivas Dempo and the club was official launched on on 26 Aaugust 2014. On 23 September Virat Kohli was announced as one of the co owners of the team. Later Bllywood actor Varun Dhavan was announced that brand ambassador of the team. FC Go is the first Indian sports club to launch a satellite TV channel called FC Goa TV on Videocon D2H service.The FC Goa logo is a combination of Goas state animal bison and a shield; these symbols both together represent strength, attack and defense. The logo personifies the character of Goan football and the fundamentals of the team. The club symbolizes the qualities of strength, attack and defense which is apparent in their performances. On 2 September 2014 the Legendary Brazilian Football player Arthur Antunes Coimbra (Zico) signed as the club's Head Coach. FC Goa officially confirmed Arsenal legend Robert Pires as their first marquee player on 20 September 2014. Afghanistan captain Zohib Islam Amiri joined FC Goa on 26 September. Another former Arsenal player Andre Santos joined Indian Super League side FC Goa. 15-player FC Goa domestic contingent consisted of 14 players from the Dempo SC outfit along with a Mohun Bagan loanee in Biswajit Singh.Four out of their first six matches was lost by FC Goa in the beginning but they managed to come back strongly in the second half of the tournament. They got five victories in their last eight matches and kept five clean sheets in their 14 matches. Overall, Zico did great job with six wins, four defeats and three draws and it took them to the second spot of the standings with 22 points. The club qualified for the end-of-season play-offs by finishing second in the league, They lost in the playoffs via a penalty shootout against Atletico de Kolkata after a goalless draw. At the end of season awards, Jan Seda was named the Golden Glove winner. The arrival of Romeo Fernandes on the national footballing scene was particularly encouraging from the first season . The Goan's consistent displays on the pitch quickly turned him into a fan favourite and attracted interest from lands as far as Brazil. His performances culminated in him being loaned out to Atletico Paranaense from parent club Dempo SC, where he became the first Indian to play professionally at the senior level in South America.
