Ford Motors India: Ford aims to triple exports from India with Sanand plant in 5 years

American auto major Ford aims to triple exports from India over the next five years with its new USD 1 billion plant here becoming operational. The plant, the company's second in the country, which was inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel here today, will also double its production capacity in India. "With manufacturing facilities in Chennai and Sanand, we expect to triple our exports from India in the next five years," Ford Motor President and CEO Mark Fields told reporters.

Ford Cars India: Slowdown forces Ford India to alter product launch programme in the country

Faced with a slowdown in the past couple of years, auto major Ford has adjusted its product launch strategy in India with only three new products lined up to hit the market in the next 18 months, two short of the earlier plan. The company had in 2010 said it would launch eight new products in the country by the middle of the decade. Since making the announcement it has so far launched only three. Ford Motor Co President and CEO Mark Fields told reporters, "Obviously, you have to look at market trends. You have to look how the economy is doing. So we changed our plan. We adjusted our plan accordingly but at the same time we are going to offer three new products in the next 12-18 months."

Apparently the carmaker has organised a special factory visit at Ahmadabad where it will be giving the visitors a firsthand experience of the new developed USD 1 Billion manufacturing facility. With this new facility Ford India hopes to capture the growing competition in the Indian market and simultaneously increase its footprint by introducing new model.
