George W. Bush is an American politician and the 43rd President of the United States of America. Before becoming the President, he held the position of Governor of Texas from 1994-2000. His father George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of the United States; making him the second President in the history of United States to have been the son of the former President. Bush is known for initiating the Iraq War in 2003 as a response to the 9/11 attacks of 2001. His brother Jeb Bush is a former Governor of Florida and in the 2016 presidential election, he contested as a candidate for the Republican Presidential Nomination. Bush has been one of the most controversial presidents and his presidency has been ranked as one of the worst in surveys conducted in 2010. He is the only US President to have earned as MBA.

George Bush was born to George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush on 6th July 1946 in New Have, Connecticut. He belonged to the family of politicians and his grandfather was the Republican Senator from Connecticut whereas his father has held the positions of Vice President and President of the United States. George W. Bush was the eldest of six children. He started his schooling and attended public schools in Midland, Texas and later after the family moved to Houston, he completed his schooling from the Kinkaid School. He attended the boarding school Philips Academy for his high school studies. During his high school days, Bush was the head cheerleader and played baseball. After completing his high school, he joined Yale University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1968. While graduating from Yale University, Bush was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon and also served as its president during his final year. Two weeks before completing his graduation, he was enlisted in the Texas Air National Guard and during the 1968 Vietnam War, despite the Guard unit having a long waiting list, Bush was accepted. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant and earned the fighter pilot certification in 1970. On 21st November 1974 he was honorably discharged from the Air Force Reserve. In 1973, Bush attended the Harvard Business School and earned an MBA degree in 1975. After completing his MBA, Bush returned to Midland and then entered the oil business and started working with a family friend and later started his own oil and gas firm. Later in 1978, he ran for the House of Representatives in the Texas' 19th Congressional District but lost the election by 6 percent votes to Kent Hance. He then returned to oil industry and created Arbusto Energy and later re-named it as Bush Exploration. He merged his company with Spectrum 7 and became the Chairman of the company. The company later folded into HKN Inc where he served in the Board of Directors.

In the year 1988, Bush along with his family moved to Washington DC to help his father for the Presidential Campaign. He served as the campaign advisor and liaison to the media and when his father became the President of United States, he returned to Texas and purchased shares of baseball franchise Texas Rangers but sold his share for over $15 million in 1998. For the 1992 elections, Bush was one of the seven 'campaign advisors' to his father. His father lost the re-election in 1992 to Bill Clinton. George W. Bush then decided to run as a Republican for becoming the Governor of Texas. His association with the Rangers team and his family background helped him in winning the elections against Ann Richards and becoming the Governor of Texas after receiving 53% of the vote. He was re-elected again after four years with a record 69% votes and became the First Texas Governor to bhold the office for a consecutive four year term.

In 1999, Bush announced his candidacy for President of United States. After a series of primary elections, he was elected as the Republican Presidential Nomination. The presidential election between George Bush and Al Gore, the candidate from the Democrats was one of the most controversial elections in the history of United States.  As the Election Day unfolded, there was no clear winner of the election and different news channel declared different results. By the next morning, Bush had 246 electoral votes compared to Gore's 255 votes. The candidate to be declared as the president required 270 votes. After a month of recounts, the U.S. Supreme Court decided the election in favour of George W. Bush with 271 votes as compared to 266 votes received by Al Gore. He was sworn in as the 43rd President of the United States of America on January 20, 2001. In his first term as President, Bush outlined an ambitious domestic agenda. However, just eight months into his presidency, on September 11, 2001, the Taliban lead an orchestrated terror attack on the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon. In the aftermath of the September 11 (famously referred at the 9/11) terrorist attacks, Bush waged wars on Afghanistan and Iraq. There were significant domestic debates made regarding immigration, healthcare, Social Security and economic policy. He ran for re-election in 2004 against Democratic challenger and Senator John Kerry and won the election in November 2004. In his second term, he pushed for immigration reforms and eased environmental regulations. He was severely criticized after his administration's poor response to the Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. His approval ratings steadily declined and during his last days as President, the United States entered the longest post World War II recessions referred to as the Great Recession.

George W. Bush is married to Laura Lane Welch, a school teacher and librarian. Following a small courtship of three months, Bush proposed to her. They were married on 5th November. The couple has fraternal twin daughters - Barbara Bush and Jenna Welch Bush. After the end of his tenure at the White House, Bush and his wife settled in Dallas, Texas. He participated in building of his presidential library and also led efforts for private fundraising for the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. In 2013, he opened the George W. Bush Library and museum on the grounds of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
