Israel has seemingly changed its strategy in Syria following a statement by Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Syria's main rebel group that seized Damascus earlier this month and toppled the Assad regime, ending the Syria civil war.

The SDF has replaced Syrian government forces and is now challenging the rebel forces. The conflict between the SDF and HTS rebels is centered around control of the Ala Tayyam oil fields, where 5,000 barrels of crude oil are extracted daily.

Pedersen, stated that thousands of civilians have fled the region due to the conflict. Amid rising tensions, Russia has removed its five warships and one submarine.
