Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan was born on January 10, 1974, to Rakesh Roshan and Pinky Roshan. His father is a renowned film director and actor and his uncle, Rajesh Roshan is a well known music composer. Both, his maternal and paternal grandgathers were connected to films. Hrithik Roshan completed his schooling from Bombay Scottish School in Mahim, Mumbai, and graduated in commerce from the Sydenham College in the city. Though he always wanted to act in the movies, his father maintained that he must first perfect his skill. Hrithik Roshan debuted in his father's directorial venture Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai in 2000 and rose to instant stardom. The chiseled good looks of Roshan Jr made him an overnight sensation amongst the fans, both male and female. Hrithik played twin roles in the movie opposite debutante Ameesha Patel. The dancing-lover boy image was lapped up by fans and Hrithik Roshan won the Filmfare Best Debut Actor (Male) as well as the Filmfare Best Actor Award for the movie. The super success was followed by critically acclaimed roles in movies like Fiza and Mission Kashmir in the same year. Though Fiza did not do well at the box office, Hrithik Roshan's role was appreciated widely by the various critics. Mission Kashmir did better and became a high grosser for the year.

Soon after the success of his first movie, Hrithik Roshan married his childhood sweetheart Suzanne Khan (daughter of actor Sanjay Khan) in December 2000. The couple have two sons, Hrehaan (born in 2006) and Hridhaan (born in 2008). Under a lot of media scrutiny, the couple called it quits in December 2013 after 17 years of relationship which was formalized by Bombay Court in November 2014.

Hrithik Roshan played the role of a young Muslim boy who is caught in the middle of crossfire between a group of terrorists and army. His portrayal of a traumatized young boy divided between love for his adaptive mother and the anguish towards the adapted father who was the reason behind the death of his own family won him accolades and appreciation from the critics. Everybody believed him to be the next big thing in the Hindi cinema. Though his next big movie, Subhash Ghai directed Yaadein opposite Kareena Kapoor flopped at the box office, he was still very much in vogue in 2001 with his moves and grooves in the Karan Johar multi-starrer magnum opus Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham. The movie was critically examined by the cinema buffs as it had the all-time biggies of the Hindi cinema including theAmitabh Bachchan as well as Shah Rukh Khan.

Hrithik Roshan maintained his space and movie pundits believed that nothing could go wrong with his career graph till all hell broke loose in the year 2002. At the pinnacle of his career, Hrithik Roshan did back to back flops namely Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lagey, Tum Jaano Na Hum as well as Mujhse Dosti Karoge. The dismal response to Sooraj Bharjatiyas Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, people were ready to write off Hrithik Roshan. Many magazines went as far as claiming that his career in Bollywood was finished. He was able to take this in a positive light and a motivational factor and decided to pace out his work by doing one movie in a year.

The decision paid dividends and his next movie Koi Mil Gaya (directed and produced by his father Rakesh Roshan) in 2003 gave his career the much needed impetus. The movie, a sci-fi, explored the relationship of a mentally challenged boy Rohit Verma with an alien Jadoo who gets stranded on earth. The movie was well received and continues to be one of Bollywoods best received sci-fi movies of all times. The critics and fans all had praises for Hrithiks portrayal of a mentally challenged man and the movie went on to become the highest grosser of the year. Not only that, it swept the awards and brought Hrithik Roshan his next set of awards in Filmfare Award for Best Actor as well as Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor. This time the Greek God, as he is popularly known, firmly established himself as a bankable actor in B-town.

Hrithik continued to enjoy success at the box office with Lakshya and then in the sequel Dhoom 2 where he played the role of a master thief opposite Aishwarya Rai in 2004. The movie was a top grosser. Hrithik Roshan returned as Krrish in the sequel to Koi Mil Gaya. Krrish is a super hero flick and Hrithik Roshan played the son of Rohit Verma, who had inherited some special powers by virtue of his fathers association with the alien. His role was much appreciated and loved by the audience and in 2006 Krrish became the first Indian superhero! He was awarded for his contribution in many award ceremonies. The franchise brought forth another sequel in the year 2013 with Krrish 3 starring Vivek Oberoi and Kangana Ranaut. The movie was a hit as well.

Apart from these, Hrithik Roshan has also acted in mega blockbusters like Jodha Akbar, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and Agneepath. Some of his movies like Kites and Guzaarish failed to work on the box office but were critically appreciated. He also paired opposite Katrina Kaif in Bang Bang. His recent release includes Ashutosh Gowarikars Mohenjo Daro.

Hrithik Roshan is next expected to be seen in yet another sequel to the much-loved franchise in Krrish 4 which is slated for a Christmas release in 2018. Hrithik Roshan is also famous for two thumbs on his right hand and this was cashed in on Koi Mil Gaya movie where the alien was designed to have similar features.
