The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM-L) is an autonomous business school in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. IIM Lucknow was established in the year 1984 as the fourth Indian Institute of Management (IIM) by the Government of India. The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM-L) provides various courses such as post-graduate diploma, fellowship and executive programs in management. It has been named as the "Institution of Excellence" by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of India. It is one of the top 5 B-schools in the nation. The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow also serves as the mentor institution for the IIM Kashipur and IIM Rohtak. The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM-L) is situated in a 200-acre site. Its satellite campus is located at Noida wholly for executive education. Candidates willing to seek admission for the post graduate and fellowship programmes have to appear in Common Admission Test (CAT) and those who wish to pursue the executive MBA programme appear for GMAT. The programs offered in the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow are accredited by the AMBA, a global accreditation body. IIM Lucknow has tie ups with 24 leading B-schools across the world for student exchange. Many management events, competitions, cultural and sports events are organized by various committees throughout the year. IIM Lucknow is the fourth Indian Institute of Management to be established in India. Prior to this, IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad, and IIM Bangalore were established. Ishwar Dayal, a renowned academician played a significant role in establishing the institution. He was also the founding director of IIM Lucknow for four years. Hari Shankar Singhania was the chairman of Board of Governors in the year 1992. He served for a period of 15 years till the year 2007.The Post Graduate Programme (PGP) was started during the period 198586. At that time, the strength was of 30 students. The classes were conducted in rented rooms at Butler Palace. Further, the classes moved to Giri Institute of Developmental Studies. The present campus of IIM Lucknow was built in the year 1992 in the outskirts of Lucknow. IIM Lucknow runs with the aim to help improve management systems pertaining to business, public and industry services through pursuit of distinction in management education, consultancy, training and research.Many tie ups were made with 3 foreign universities in the year 2001 to commence the student exchange program. In the year 2004, the Agri business Course was started in which 13 students were enrolled. In the year 2005, the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow established a second campus at Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The campus was established at Noida to leverage its locational advantage of nearness to the capital Delhi. The Noida campus was set up mainly for executive education. The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow is the first IIM in the nation to start an additional campus. The full-time residential diploma courses in Indian Institute of Management Lucknow are Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) and Post Graduate Programme in Agribusiness Management (PGPABM). Both of these are 2 year programs. The first year of the program lasts from June to March in 3-10 week trimesters. Thereafter, students undergo a summer internship with a company.Various specializations are offered in the second year, namely; Marketing, Finance, Operations, Human Resources, Strategy, Economics and Systems. On the other hand, the students pursuing the PGPABM coursem specializes in Agribusiness. The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow has made student exchange relationships. The student exchange relationships have been made with 24 leading B schools in Europe, United States of America, Canada, China and Singapore. The current partner institutions are ESSEC Business School, Jean Moulin University, Reims School of Management, Ecole De Management, European School of Management, Toulouse Business School, European Business School, Leipzig School of Management, Institute National Des Telecommunications, ESC Bretagne Brest, George Mason University, University of Connecticut, Carleton University, Louvain Catholic University, Copenhagen Business School, McMaster University, Brock University, ESADE Business School, Jonkoping International Business School, University of St. Gallen, Athens University of Economics and Business, Bocconi University, MIP Politecnico di Milano, National University of Singapore, Turku School of Economics, Beijing Jiaotong University and University of Amsterdam.In the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, the courses are taught under 11 diverse disciplines, namely; Business Environment, Decision Sciences, Communication, Finance and Accounting, Marketing, Operations Management, Human Resource Management, Information Technology and Systems, Strategic Management, Legal Management and Agribusiness Management. Trainings are provided to students in management using lectures, case studies, workshops, projects, role plays and management games under a rigorous syllabus. The evaluation of students is done on the basis of examinations, quizzes, presentations, projects and class participation under a grading system. The academic learning of students is supplemented by the various live projects, guest lectures, management competitions and interactions with alumni and industry leaders. Students get an opportunity to provide consultancy to various organizationas and get paid in return.Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is also provided in the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. It is a 4 year Doctoral programme in Management that was started in the year 2000. Students holding masters degrees or Engineering undergraduate degrees are eligible for taking admission into the course. While the essential course work is taken in the 1st year and the specialization in the 2nd year, the thesis of research commences in the beginning of 3rd year. Students who did the PGDM from any of the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) are admitted directly to the 2nd year. The specializations offered are Economics, Decision Sciences, Finance and Accounting, Information Technology and Systems, Human Resources Management, Marketing Management, Strategic Management and Operations Management. The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow does not charge a tuition fees for fellowship program besides providing free hostel facility. Some of the famous alumni of IIM Lucknow are Gayatri Iyer (Indian playback singer, primarily in Bollywood, married to Kunal Ganajawala), Amitabh Thakur (Famous RTI activist and IPS), Shanmugam Manjunath (Grade A officer for the Indian Oil Corporation who was murdered for sealing a corrupt petrol station in Lakhimpur Kheri, UP), Gaurav Agarwal - 2013 Civil Services topper who is now an IAS officer.
