Indian Institute of Management, Shillong IIM Shillong or IIM-S, is a fully autonomous management institute in the city of Shillong, Meghalaya. It is the seventh Indian Institute of Management to be established in India and is consistently ranked among the top business schools in the country. IIM Shillong is offered by postgraduate, doctoral, and executive programmes in management education, and Management Development Programmes (MDPs) spanning different streams of management.For admission to IIM Shillong candidates need to appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT), which is an annual exam administered by the IIMs for selection into various business schools across India. The selection of candidates to IIM Shillong is a multi-stage process that is defined by the admission policy. There are slight variations in the criteria depending on the course applied for at all the other IIMs.The two year, full time, residential Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme is designed to help in imbibing a holistic approach towards solving business and management problems. The main objective of these courses is to develop a fundamental and conceptual understanding of different facets of business management. These courses are derived from diverse disciplines. The admissions for the Post Graduate and Fellow programmes are through CAT. The Institute follows a rigorous selection process. The unique courses offered at IIM Shillong include Northeast Studies, Business in the Northeast, Decoding Organizational Pathologies, and Sports Management, to name a few.IIM Shillong offers Post Graduate Program for Executives for managing Business in India and China (PGPEx MBIC). The programme is a fourteen-month fully residential program for executives that aim to provide the opportunity to learn and conduct trans-national business. The course is spread across two campuses IIM Shillong and Ocean University of China, Qingdao. In addition to classroom facilitation, the course structure also includes practical learning through internships and industry visits in both countries.Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is the doctoral level programme offered by IIM Shillong. The FPM is a four-year fully residential programme with fellowships awarded in the following areas: economics, finance, HR, information systems, marketing, and operations management. Admissions for this programme are based on scores obtained through CAT, GMAT, GATE, GRE, or the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) examination.Management Development Programme (MDP) is also offered at IIM Shillong. The programme is a short duration programmes which varies from two days to six months, for working executives from the industry, education, and government sectors, held both on- and off-campus. The MDPs furnish executives a chance to familiarize themselves with the latest techniques, tools, and skills spanning different streams of management from Education Management to Sustainable Development.The various programmes offered by IIM shillong candidates include Faculty Development Programme (FDP) at regular intervals to help familiarize with current and relevant industry trends and practices. The pedagogy at IIM Shillong follows a case-based system. It is also encouraged to undertake projects falling under the purview of the subject and share their learnings with others.The institute has current faculty strength of 28 permanent faculty and about 40 visiting faculty. The ECoBiZ, the Sustainable Business Club at IIM Shillonf aims to bring about ecological and social development through the effective use of management education, and strengthen the link between social prosperity and economic profit. The club organizes regular social welfare programmes for the local community.Former president APJ Abdul Kalam collapsed while delivering a speech at IIM Shillong. After which he was declared dead. He suffered from a cardiac arrest. Apparently Kalam collapsed on the stage while addressing the students of IIM Shillong.
