Indian auto industry reports a 17.47% surge in domestic car sales in July 2015

In a sharp uptick, cars sales rose by 17.47 per cent in July - highest in three months - to 1.62 lakh units helped by Maruti and Honda, but rural-market dependent motorcycles and LCVs continued to skid. This marks the ninth consecutive month of domestic sales growth for passenger cars and a strong rebound from a modest rise of just 1.5 per cent in June.

Indian automotive industry will hire 1.5 crore personnel by 2022: Says NSDC

Nearly 1.5 crore people are expected to be employed in the automobile sector directly by 2022, according to a National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) report. According to industry estimates, the automobile industry accounts for 22-25 per cent of the country's manufacturing gross domestic product. FDI in the sector is allowed at 100 per cent under the automatic route. Therefore, an addition of one manpower at an OEM would lead to generating eight jobs at the vendor's end.

Maruti YBA compact SUV spied: launch in 2016

We reported earlier that Maruti Suzuki will launch the much-awaited YBA sub-4 metre SUV in the Indian car market in early 2016. The company has started testing the prototype of the SUV on Indian roads, and ACI has managed to click the vehicle during its test rounds. New Toyota Innova and Fortuner 2016 likely to get cheaper; to feature locally-made diesel engines

Toyota India will launch the new generation Innova MPV and the Fortuner SUV in the country at the 2016 Delhi Motor Show. The company confirmed that the new models will get newly developed 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre GD engines. If reports are to be believed, Toyota Kirloskar Motor will start developing diesel engines in the country. The trial production is likely to commence soon at its Jigani facility in Bengaluru, while commercial production will start by early 2016. For instance, the TKM Bengaluru facility only manufactures petrol motors, while the oil burners are directly imported from Japan. 

New Toyota Innova & Fortuner to get new "GD" engines- unveiled

We reported earlier that Toyota will unveil the new generation Innova MPV and the Fortuner SUV at the 2016 Delhi Motor Show. The company has already started testing the cars on Indian roads. It was speculated that the new UVs will get new diesel engines, and now the company has officially revealed its all-new 'GD' series of diesel engines at the Vienna Motor Symposium. This new oil burners will power the company's next generation IMV products including 2016 Hilux, Fortuner and the Innova. 

Ford Motors India: India will become 3rd largest auto manufacturer by 2020, predicts Ford India

According to a top official at Ford Motors, India's automotive industry is expected to reach 7 million vehicles milestone by 2020, apparently making the country the third-largest auto manufacturer in the world, right behind the US and China. The automotive sector has a direct bearing on the economy with a near 7 per cent contribution to the GDP, playing an important role in the development of other crucial sectors as well, David Dubensky, President and Managing Director, Ford Motor Private Ltd, said.

Auto Expo 2016: Aston Martin, Maserati & Bentley may debut in Auto Expo next year

British luxury sports car maker Aston Martin, its Italian rival Maserati and ultra premium automaker Bentley could be among the main attractions in the next year's Auto Expo to be held from February 5-9. According to industry sources, for the first time these luxury car makers have approached organisers of the Auto Expo to participate in India's flagship automobile show. "Aston Martin, Maserati and Bentley have shown interest to take part in the Auto Expo and if they do it will be the first time that they will be taking part," a source said.
