The margin has widened substantially between the Congress and the BJP in Chhattisgarh where the incumbent government is leading on just 17 seats while the Opposition gained a lead on 58 seats.

The polling for the 5th phase of panchayat elections began in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The polling, which commenced at 8 am, will conclude at 2 pm. As of now, no violence has been reported from any part of the state where the voting is taking place.

Ruling out the possibility of tying up with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or the Congress to form the government in Chhattisgarh, former state chief minister and Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC) founder Ajit Jogi on Saturday asserted that his party's alliance with Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Communist Party of India (CPI) would get absolute majority.
