Jason Paul Behrendorff is a name that will rankle Indian batsmen for the next few matches. The 27-year-old left-arm pacer from Australian snared four top order Indian batsmen in only his second T20 International at Guwahati's Barsapara stadium on Tuesday to help his team crush the hosts by eight wickets. Born on April 20, 1990 at Camden near Sydney in New South Wales, the Australian pacer made his international debut against India in the T20 at Ranchi on October 7.
Behrendorff's pace and swing caused a lot of trouble for the Indian batsmen in Guwahati. He claimed the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey to announce his arrival on the international stage and make up for his wicket-less debut in Ranchi three days earlier. Behrendorff's incoming balls proved too hot for the Indian top-order with skipper Kohli falling for his first duck in a T20I. Ending with a figure of 4/21 in his quota of four overs, Behrendorff ensure that the Indian batsmen never got going and in the end it was an easy victory for Australia.
Behrendorff has played for Australian Capital Territory Under-19, Perth Scorchers, Tuggeranong Valley, Western Australia, Western Australia Under-23 before getting a call for the Australian national team. Even though he is a left-arm bowler, Behrendorff bats right-hand.
Even as his was ripping apart the Indian batting line-up, Behrendorff was also being compared to WWE wrestler John Cena. He was also asked about his supposed resemblance to Cena, which he laughed out by saying that the WWE wrestler is a "a fair bit bigger than I am."
Behrendorff's exploits with the ball will also be watched closely by the Indian Premier League franchises. "It will be huge. Everyone wants to play in the IPL. Every guy you play alongside in Big Bash League, who has done it or aspires to do it, speaks how great a competition IPL is, how much fun they have had, large number of people, who come to watch matches. It's an experience, I would love to have," the pacer had said before the Ranchi T20I. Behrendorff plays in the Big Bash for Perth Scorchers.
