Karan Johar is an Indian film director, screenwriter, producer, costume designer, television personality and actor. He is mainly known for his work in Hindi films. His father, Yash Johar was the acclaimed producer. Karan Johar made his directorial debut with the movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. But, he had also worked as an Assistant Director on Aditya Chopras Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayengein the year 1995. He bagged Filmfare awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay for this movie. His next two films were Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. He earned the second fFilmfare award for Best Director from the movie My Name Is Khan. He produced several successful films under the Dharma Productions banner. He is one of the leading director-producers in Hindi cinema. Karan Johar puts up in Mumbai, India. He did his schooling from Greenlawns High School and did graduation from H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. He also holds a masters degree in French. In the 1989 Doordarshan Serial Indradhanush, he worked in the role of Shrikant. He acted in "Indradhanush" Doordarshan Serial, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Main Hoon Na, Home Delivery: Aapko... Ghar Tak, Alag, Salaam-e-Ishq, Om Shanti Om, C Kkompany, Fashion, Luck by Chance, Bombay Velvet and Shaandaar. In 1999, he was awarded the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment (Director) for the movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In 2002, he won Filmfare Best Dialogue Award for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and in 2011, Filmfare Best Director Award for My Name Is Khan. In 2001, he won IIFA Award for Best Costume Designer (Mohabbatein), IIFA Award for Best Dialogue in 2002 for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, IIFA Award for Best Story in Kal Ho Na Ho for 2004 and IIFA Award for Best Director for My Name Is Khan in 2011. In 2011, Karan Johar was awarded the Apsara Award for Best Director for My Name Is Khan and in 2013 the President's Honour for Student of the Year. In 1999, he was awarded the Screen Award for Best Director for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and in 2004, Screen Award for Best Screenplay in 'Kal Ho Naa Ho. In 1999, Karan Johar was given Zee Cine Award for Best Director for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Zee Cine Award for Best Director for My Name Is Khan in 2011, Stardust Award for Dream Director for Student of the Year 2013. In the year 2007, Karan was chosen as one of 250 Global Young Leaders by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum 2006. He also became the first Indian filmmaker to be a jury member in the Miss World competition, in Warsaw, Poland. In addition to that, he was only other Indian apart from the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to be invited for the opening ceremony of the London Olympics. Karan Johar stepped into the film industry as an assistant director for the movie Dilwale Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The movie is regarded as a landmark in Hindi cinema. The directorial work of Karan Johar has been under the Dharma Productions. Dharma production banner was founded by Yash Johar. After the death of Yash Johar, Karan Johar took over the banner. Karan produced many films as well, namely; Kal Ho Naa Ho, Dostana, I Hate Luv Storys, Agneepath, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, 2 States, We are family, Wake up Sid, Kurbaan, Baar Baar Dekho, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Shaandar, Brothers, Ungli, Hasee to phasee, Gori tere pyar main, Kapoor & Sons, etc. Karan Johar also hosts Koffee with Karan. He interviews directors, actors, producers, and other personalities of the Hindi film industry on his show. For years, he has been an integral part of the jury in reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Indias Got Talent.
