Karan Mehra

Karan Mehra is an Indian television actor, fashion designer and model who is most famously known for his role of 'Naitik' in the popular daily soap of STAR Plus 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai'. He has been associated with the Indian television industry for a very long time and has been in numerous advertisements of various banks and institutions and also has been a part of 'Nach Baliye 5' with his wife 'Nisha Rawal'. He has also directed his wife Nisha Rawal in songs like 'Tu Bin Bataye' and 'Choti si Asha'. He represented other shows because of his popular image as Naitik in the soap 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' but he quit the show due to health issues and was replaced by Vishal Singh. He is currently seen in Colors TV's popular reality TV show Bigg Boss 10 as one of the celebrity contestants.

Karan Mehran was born on 10^th September 1982 in a middle class family of Jalandhar, Punjab. His father Ajay Mehra is a businessman and runs a construction business whereas his mother is a homemaker. Karan did his schooling from a school from Jalandhar, Punjab and later he moved to Delhi and studied fashion designing course from the leading fashion institute of India - National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. Despite his father having a flourishing business, Karan was not inclined to join the family business and wanted to set up his own venture. After completing his four year course from Delhi, he shifted to Mumbai to start his fashion designing career. Karan was always interested in acting and dancing but when he decided on Mumbai, it was solely with a purpose of setting his fashion designing career.

Chance often favours the prepared and when Karan reached Mumbai he met two of the most popular directors Ram Gopal Verma and Raj Kumar Hirani who suggested him to try his hands in acting. Karan took their advice seriously and started his career with assisting Ram Gopal Verma as well as Raj Kumar Hirani. He assisted them in four movies and also appeared in few Bollywood films doing side roles. He was seen in the movie Saajan where he played Salman Khan's college mate. Later he was seen in Love Story 2050 as Harman Baweja's friend. He later worked in movies like Blood Money as Bobby Kapadia, Mere Dad Ki Maruti as Sameer's brother-in-law, and in Badmashiyaan ad Dev's friend Pinku. Later, he also started to do modeling which helped him in gaining TV commercials. His biggest break came with the opportunity to work as the lead in the show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is an Indian television drama that airs on STAR Plus. Karan was selected to play the lead role of Naitik Singhania in the show. The show also stars Hina Khan, Rohan Mehra and Shivangi Joshi in lead roles. From the onset, the sow captured the fancy of the audience an dhis role gained much appreciation. The simple and grounded Naitik was able to create a strong fan following. Karan went on to receive many awards for this role that included Star Parivaar Awards from 2009 to 2015 in different categories like Favourite Naya Sadasya, Favourite Yogya Jodi (2009), Favourite Jodi, Favurite Pati (2011), Favourite Beta (2012), Favourite Pita (2013), Favourite Pita (2014) and Favourite Pati (2015). He also won the 2009 Most Promising Male Actor Award by New Talent Awards and he won the Indian Television Academy Awards in the year 2009 and 2015 under the category of Best Actor - Drama (Popular) and Popular Choice Awards respectively. However, he quit the show due to health issues and was replaced by Vishal Singh. Apart from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata hai, he also participated in the dance shows like Nach Baliye 5 and Nach Baliye Shriman v/s Shrimati along his wife Nisha Rawal. He has also played small roles in shows like Amrit Manthan and Virrudh. After his small sabbatical, Karan is again on screen as a celebrity guest in Bigg Bss 10.

Karan Mehra married his long time friend Nisha Rawal on 24^th November 2012.
