Laylat al-Qadr

The Laylat al-Qadr / Lailat al-Qadr or the Night of Power aka Night of Destiny is one of the holiest nights during the month of Ramadan. The Laylat al-Qadr 2017 falls on Wednesday, June 21, and in some countries, on Thursday, June 22. Laylat al-Qadr is observed just a few days before Eid-al-Fitr (Eid 2017 falls on June 26 / 27 in 2017). Watch the Laylat al-Qadr prayers live from Mecca here.

Importance of Laylat al-Qadr

The Laylat al-Qadr falls on the last 10 nights of the holy month but most people believe that the Night of Destiny falls on the 27th day of Ramadan. The Laylat al-Qadr marks the night in circa 610 CE when Allah revealed the first verses of the Koran or Qu'ran (Islamic holy book) to Prophet Muhammad, and angel Gabriel further guided the prophet for a lifelong mission.
